Steve Harvey

Broderick Stephen Harvey (born January 17, 1957) is an American comedian, television and radio host, actor, writer, and producer. He is best known for hosting popular programs including The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud, Family Feud Africa, and Judge Steve Harvey, as well as the Miss Universe competition. His achievements include seven Daytime Emmy Awards, two Marconi Awards, and fourteen NAACP Image Awards.

Harvey was born in Welch, West Virginia, to Jesse Harvey, a coal miner, and Eloise Vera. The youngest of five children, he was named after actor Broderick Crawford. He overcame a severe stutter as a child and dreamed of appearing on television. His family later relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, on East 112th Street, which was renamed Steve Harvey Way in 2015. Harvey graduated from Glenville High School in 1974 and attended Kent State University, where he joined the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Before pursuing comedy, Harvey worked as a boxer, autoworker, insurance salesman, carpet cleaner, and mailman. He gave his first stand-up performance on October 8, 1985, at the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland. During the late 1980s, Harvey experienced three years of homelessness before gaining recognition as a finalist in the 1990 Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search. This led to a hosting role on It's Showtime at the Apollo.

Harvey transitioned to television sitcoms, starring in Me and the Boys in 1994 and The Steve Harvey Show on The WB from 1996 to 2002. In 1997, he toured on the record-breaking Kings of Comedy tour, which was captured in Spike Lee's concert film The Original Kings of Comedy. In 2000, he launched The Steve Harvey Morning Show, a weekday radio program that became nationally syndicated. He also appeared in feature films including The Fighting Temptations, Love Don't Cost a Thing, Johnson Family Vacation, and You Got Served.

As an author, Harvey published the 2009 best-seller Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, which inspired the 2012 film Think Like a Man. He assumed hosting duties for Family Feud in 2010, becoming the show's longest-tenured host, and later hosted Celebrity Family Feud, Little Big Shots, and multiple Miss Universe pageants. In 2017, he consolidated his business ventures under Steve Harvey Global, housing his production company East 112, international projects, and events.

Harvey and his wife, Marjorie, founded The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to youth education. In 2022, he began hosting the court comedy Judge Steve Harvey on ABC. In March 2024, it was announced that Harvey would join Merit Street Media.
