Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung, born 5 November 1983, is an English model, television personality, and writer. She was scouted by a modelling agency at the age of 16 while attending the Reading Festival, launching a career across fashion modelling, broadcast presenting, journalism, and design.

Chung was born in Winchester, Hampshire, England, to Gillian, an English housewife, and Phillip Chung, a Chinese graphic designer. The youngest of four children, she grew up in Privett and took ballet and horse riding lessons. Her childhood interest in fashion was inspired by BBC One's The Clothes Show. She attended Perins School and Peter Symonds College, and was accepted into King's College London and Chelsea College of Arts before pursuing her modelling career.

Her early modelling included appearances in teen magazines such as Elle Girl and CosmoGIRL!, advertisements for brands like Fanta, Sunsilk, and Tampax, and music videos. After temporarily stepping back from full-time modelling, she moved into television presenting in 2006 as co-host of Channel 4's music show Popworld. She went on to present programmes such as Freshly Squeezed, Gok's Fashion Fix, and Frock Me, as well as hosting events such as the Elle Style Awards.

In 2009, Chung moved to the United States to host MTV's live daily show It's On with Alexa Chung. Upon returning to the UK, she hosted Gonzo with Alexa Chung on MTV Rocks. Her subsequent presenting work included 24 Hour Catwalk, Fuse News, a 2015 online documentary series for Vogue UK, and co-hosting the 2020 Netflix fashion competition series Next in Fashion alongside Tan France. She also launched her own YouTube channel in May 2019.

Alongside presenting, Chung maintained an extensive modelling career. She walked for designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, and Miu Miu, and appeared as the face of brands including Pepe Jeans, Lacoste, DKNY Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, Superga, and Longchamp. In January 2010, handbag brand Mulberry introduced the "Alexa" bag, inspired by and named after her. Chung also collaborated on lines with Madewell and AG Jeans, and launched her own clothing label, Alexachung, in May 2017, which operated until March 2022.

In print media, Chung wrote columns for Company and The Independent, became a contributing editor for British Vogue in 2009, and published her book, It, in 2013. Recognized for her personal style, she won three British Style Awards at the Fashion Awards organized by the British Fashion Council. In July 2020, Chung shared her diagnosis of endometriosis publicly. In May 2024, it was reported that she was engaged to actor Tom Sturridge.
