Born on 6 November 1992 in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, Aramayo is the son of Michael Aramayo and Lisa Dawson. His heritage includes English and Basque ancestry, stemming from his paternal grandfather who relocated from San Sebastián to England to work in the fishing trade. He discovered a passion for acting at age seven during a primary school staging of Bugsy Malone. While attending Cavendish Primary School, Malet Lambert School, and Wyke College, he honed his craft by spending several years with the Hull Truck Youth Theatre. In 2011, he secured admission to the Juilliard School in New York City, where a stage performance in A Clockwork Orange led to his first screen role in the feature Lost in Florence.
Aramayo's screen career quickly expanded in 2016 with his portrayal of co-founder William S. Harley in the television miniseries Harley and the Davidsons, along with an appearance in the feature film Nocturnal Animals. Between 2016 and 2017, he gained further prominence playing young Eddard Stark across two seasons of Game of Thrones. He went on to secure parts in several feature films, including The Standoff at Sparrow Creek, Eternal Beauty, and The Empty Man, alongside a role in the HBO project Lewis and Clark.
In August 2019, Aramayo joined the cast of the Netflix psychological thriller miniseries Behind Her Eyes, which debuted in 2021. Early in 2020, he was selected to portray Elrond in Amazon's epic series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a project that premiered in 2022.
His film accomplishments continued into 2025 with roles in two major projects. He portrayed military figure Orde Wingate in the drama Palestine 36 and played Tourette syndrome campaigner John Davidson in the feature film I Swear.
Aramayo has earned significant critical acclaim for his creative output. His work in I Swear and Palestine 36 secured him the Breakthrough Performer of the Year title at the London Film Critics Circle Awards 2025. Furthermore, at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, he achieved a historic double win by receiving both the Rising Star Award and the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in I Swear.
