About Charlie Vickers

Charlie Vickers is an Australian actor recognized primarily for portraying the character Sauron in the Amazon Prime fantasy drama series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Born in St Kilda, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, Vickers spent his childhood in Geelong. He completed his secondary education at Geelong Grammar School, where he served as school captain during his final year in 2010 and earned the Juan Jose Garcia Prize for Drama. Following high school, he pursued an arts degree at RMIT University in Melbourne. During his university years, he participated in amateur stage productions with Queen's College MADS, taking on performance roles such as the Judge in Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. He later relocated to London, England, to study acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, graduating in 2018.

Vickers began his professional screen acting career appearing in television and film projects. He was cast as the youngest son of the Pazzi family in eight episodes of the historical drama series Medici, broadcast on Netflix. He subsequently featured in the comedy-drama feature film Palm Beach, directed by Rachel Ward, sharing the screen with an ensemble cast that included Sam Neill, Matilda Brown, Greta Scacchi, and Richard E. Grant.

In 2019, Vickers secured a main role in the J. R. R. Tolkien-inspired television project The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He made his screen debut in the show's second episode. Initially presented under the human persona of Halbrand, an alias adopted by Sauron, Vickers was not informed that he was portraying Sauron until filming commenced on the third episode. To prepare for the demanding role, he embarked on a five-day hiking excursion in Tongariro National Park in New Zealand and trained in freediving to undertake underwater scenes. Outside of acting, he maintains a strong interest in physical fitness, regularly running distances between 5 and 10 kilometers several times each week and completing multiple triathlons.

Following his work in fantasy television, Vickers appeared in a 2023 miniseries adaptation of Holly Ringland's novel The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, portraying the character Clem Hart. He further expanded his television work by starring in a 2025 Netflix miniseries adaptation of Jane Harper's book The Survivors. Additionally, Vickers was cast in the thriller film Death in Shoreditch, which remained in post-production as of June 2025.
