Huang Xiaoming

Huang Xiaoming, also known as Mark Huang, is a Chinese actor and singer born on November 13, 1977, in Qingdao, Shandong. Raised as an only child by an engineer father and an accountant mother, he initially planned to pursue a career in science. At age nine, a film studio selected him to play a child protagonist, following an earlier opportunity in 1984 that did not pan out due to his shy personality. Encouraged by his Chinese teacher, he auditioned for the Beijing Film Academy despite having his foot injured by a vehicle shortly before his interview. He attended the institution alongside classmates Zhao Wei and Chen Kun, graduating in 2000. He is also the older cousin of two-time Olympic gold medalist table tennis player Chen Meng.

While studying at the academy, Huang made his screen debut in the 1998 drama Love is Not a Game. His major breakthrough arrived when he was selected to replace Lu Yi as the lead in the television series The Prince of Han Dynasty, portraying Emperor Wu of Han. His performance across the show's three installments from 2001 to 2005 established him as a major star. He followed this success with roles in popular television productions, including Merry Wanderer Tang Bohu, which earned him an Outstanding Actor honor at the 14th Zhejiang TV Peony Awards, as well as My Fair Princess III, Shanghai Bund, and Royal Tramp.

Expanding into cinema, Huang made his major film appearance as an antagonist in the historical feature The Banquet. He subsequently starred in films such as The Sniper, Ip Man 2, Sacrifice, The Guillotines, and The Last Tycoon, alongside a television return in Summer's Desire. His role as a bandit leader in An Inaccurate Memoir won him the Best Actor award at the 4th China Image Film Festival. Huang achieved further critical success with Peter Chan's American Dreams in China, securing Best Actor honors at the 29th Golden Rooster Awards, 15th Huabiao Awards, 12th Changchun Film Festival, and 32nd Hundred Flowers Awards.

Huang's later work includes television series such as The Patriot Yue Fei, Cruel Romance, Nirvana in Fire 2, and Winter Begonia, as well as feature films like John Woo's epic The Crossing, The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom, Hollywood Adventures, Forever Young, and the firefighter drama The Bravest. Beyond acting, he served as an ambassador for the Changchun Film Festival and became the first actor from mainland China to have a wax figure displayed at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong.

In business, Huang holds shares in Huayi Brothers Media Corporation. His philanthropic efforts include adopting panda cubs, contributing to earthquake relief in Qinghai, serving as a UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador for China, and advocating against human trafficking. His personal life includes past relationships with Li Yu, Liu Liqi, Qin Lan, and Li Fei'er. He married Angelababy in 2015, with whom he has a son, before their divorce in 2022. He was later in a relationship with influencer Ye Ke, which ended after the birth of their child.
