Cheng Xiao

Cheng Xiao is a Chinese singer, dancer, and actress born on July 15, 1998, in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong. She initially gained recognition after debuting as a member of the South Korean girl group WJSN in 2016. As an actress, she is widely known for her leading role as Tong Yao in the 2021 Chinese e-sport romance comedy television series Falling into Your Smile.

Cheng grew up in Shenzhen alongside her younger sister, Cheng Chen. She attended the Shenzhen Art School during her early education and later graduated in 2016 from the School of Performing Arts Seoul, where she completed studies under the Department of Practical Dance.

Her career began on December 10, 2015, when she was unveiled as a member of WJSN's Wonder Unit. Prior to her official debut, she participated in a Christmas cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" released on YouTube. Cheng officially debuted with WJSN on February 25, 2016, through the mini album Would You Like?, featuring the tracks "Mo Mo Mo" and "Catch Me." Later in August 2016, she joined several bandmates and members of Monsta X to form the project group Y-Teen, which served as commercial models for KT's phone fare service.

During her early years in South Korea, Cheng also earned recognition through television and sports competition broadcasts. In September 2016, she won the Pitch King program and secured a gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the Idol Star Athletics Championships XII, followed by a bronze medal in the same segment at the event's next iteration in January 2017. In November 2016, she joined the special project group Sunny Girls alongside members from other girl groups, releasing the single "Taxi." She also joined the cast of the variety program Law of the Jungle in 2017.

Starting in 2018, Cheng shifted her focus toward solo activities in China, taking an extended hiatus from WJSN activities. She served as a cast member and dance mentor on the reality survival show Idol Producer and was cast in her first costume drama, Legend of Awakening. In November 2018, she released her debut solo song "If Love" as an OST for the online game Xuanyuan Sword, which charted at number three on QQ Music.

Cheng expanded her acting career in 2020 by starring in the drama Detective Chinatown. In January 2021, she officially launched her solo musical debut with the single "Focus X" while taking on main roles in multiple television projects, including Falling into Your Smile. Following a five-year hiatus from group promotions, Starship Entertainment announced on March 3, 2023, that Cheng had officially departed from WJSN after the expiration of her contract.
