Song Hye-kyo

Song Hye-kyo is a South Korean actress who became a prominent figure in international television and film. She achieved widespread recognition across Asia for starring in major drama series including Autumn in My Heart, All In, Full House, That Winter, the Wind Blows, Descendants of the Sun, Encounter, and The Glory. Her film projects include Hwang Jin Yi, The Grandmaster, My Brilliant Life, and Dark Nuns.

Born on November 22, 1981, Song faced severe illness as an infant, leading her parents to register her official birthdate as February 26, 1982. After her parents divorced during her childhood, she was raised by her mother and moved from Daegu to the Gangnam District in Seoul. She trained as a figure skater during elementary school until eighth grade. Later, she attended Ewha Girls' High School and studied Film Arts at Sejong University.

Song entered the entertainment industry in 1996 after winning first place in the SunKyung Smart Model Contest at age fourteen. This led to modeling work and a small television debut in First Love. Her major breakthrough occurred in 2000 with the romantic melodrama Autumn in My Heart, which gained high ratings and catalyzed the Korean Wave. She sustained this popularity by starring in the gambling drama All In in 2003 and the hit romantic comedy Full House in 2004.

Expanding her career into film, Song made her big-screen debut in the 2005 release My Girl and I, followed by playing the titular role in the 2007 drama Hwang Jin Yi. She made her American indie debut in Make Yourself at Home and appeared in diverse projects such as the omnibus film Camellia, the drama A Reason to Live, Wong Kar-wai's martial arts film The Grandmaster, John Woo's historical film The Crossing, and the Chinese feature The Queens.

In 2016, Song achieved global success in the romantic drama series Descendants of the Sun, which reached billions of views across Asia. Following a brief hiatus, she starred in the 2018 cable series Encounter and later achieved critical success in the Netflix drama The Glory, winning Best Actress at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards. Her later work includes the 2025 supernatural thriller Dark Nuns, a special appearance in Genie, Make a Wish, and the series Tantara.

Alongside Kim Tae-hee and Jun Ji-hyun, Song has been recognized in media as part of the trio referred to as "Tae-Hye-Ji." Outside of her acting career, she has represented numerous major cosmetic, fashion, and jewelry brands, serving as an ambassador for companies such as Laneige, Sulwhasoo, Chaumet, Fendi, and Guerlain.
