Yoo Ah-in

Uhm Hong-sik, professionally known as Yoo Ah-in, is a South Korean actor, creative director, and gallerist. Born on October 6, 1986, in Daegu, South Korea, he is recognized for his performances across television and cinema, including prominent roles in films such as Punch, Veteran, The Throne, Burning, and Voice of Silence, as well as television series like Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Six Flying Dragons, and Hellbound. Throughout his career, he has earned multiple honors, including two Blue Dragon Film Awards and two Baeksang Arts Awards.

Raised as the youngest of three children in Daegu's Nam District, Yoo studied fine arts at Gyeongbuk Arts High School before being discovered by a talent agent. He relocated independently to Seoul to pursue entertainment activities, later leaving Seoul Arts High School and earning his high school qualification via a GED. He subsequently attended Dankuk University and Konkuk University. Prior to his formal acting debut, he briefly trained as a prospective pop vocalist.

Yoo made his onscreen debut in a 2003 television advertisement, adopting his professional name from the German word for "one." He gained initial recognition after appearing in the youth drama series Sharp, followed by roles in April Kiss and Shi-eun & Soo-ha. Feeling unequipped for the sudden visibility, he took a temporary break from the screen to evaluate his artistic aspirations, returning with a renewed commitment to dramatic acting.

He made his feature film debut in the 2006 independent drama Boys of Tomorrow, earning the Best New Actor award at the Busan Film Critics Awards. He followed this with roles in the comedy Skeletons in the Closet, the historical series Strongest Chil Woo, and the feature Antique, which brought him a Director's Cut Award. After appearing in He Who Can't Marry and Sky and Ocean, Yoo achieved a major career breakthrough in 2010 with the historical series Sungkyunkwan Scandal, followed by his leading role in the 2011 coming-of-age hit Punch.

Yoo continued to expand his scope with projects including Fashion King, Jang Ok-jung, Living by Love, Tough as Iron, and Thread of Lies. In 2014, he drew widespread praise for portraying a talented young pianist in the cable drama Secret Affair. His profile grew further in 2015 through starring roles as an antagonist in the hit thriller Veteran and as Crown Prince Sado in the historical drama The Throne, alongside his award-winning turn in the period series Six Flying Dragons.

Following these successes, Yoo appeared in the romantic comedy Like for Likes, received a Prime Minister's Commendation in 2016, and starred in the fantasy drama Chicago Typewriter. In 2018, he received critical acclaim for his performance in Lee Chang-dong's mystery film Burning. His subsequent credits included the thriller #Alive, the drama Voice of Silence, and the dark fantasy series Hellbound.
