Often referred to in the media as the "Queen of Rom-coms" and recognized as a fashion icon, she is widely known for her roles across a broad range of television genres.

During her high school years, Park studied abroad in the United States as an international exchange student. She later attended Dongguk University in Seoul, graduating in February 2013 with a degree in Theatre. Park began her career in the entertainment industry in 2005 by appearing in an SK Telecom commercial, and launched her acting career the following year in the hit sitcom High Kick! (2006).

In her early career, Park appeared in television series such as I Am Sam (2007), Hometown of Legends (2008), Ja Myung Go (2009), and Running, Gu (2010), and was featured in BigBang's 2008 music video for Haru Haru. Park achieved her major career breakthrough in 2010 playing a resourceful woman disguised as a boy in Sungkyunkwan Scandal. She followed this in 2011 with the popular series City Hunter alongside Lee Min-ho, which led to increased advertising offers. That same year, she made her film debut in the horror movie The Cat and starred in the drama Glory Jane.

Over the following years, Park starred in diverse television roles, including dual characters in Dr. Jin (2012), an idealistic intern in A New Leaf (2014), and a tabloid reporter in Healer (2014–2015), which generated increased recognition for her in China. She subsequently starred in the legal drama Remember (2015–2016) and the historical series Queen for Seven Days (2017), and joined Netflix's variety show Busted! as a fixed cast member in 2017. In 2018, she starred in her first romantic comedy, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, opposite Park Seo-joon; the show's success sparked fashion trends and led to her first fan meeting, titled My Day.

Park continued to hold leading roles in television, starring in Her Private Life (2019), When the Weather Is Fine (2020), Forecasting Love and Weather (2022), and the revenge melodrama Marry My Husband (2024). Her recent projects include TV Chosun's crime-comedy Confidence Queen and tvN's Siren's Kiss. Alongside her acting career, Park has engaged in philanthropy, donating ₩100 million to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association following the 2022 Uljin forest fire and ₩100 million to the Seoul Asan Medical Center Cancer Center in February 2024.
