Born on June 10, 1996, in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, Jun attended Buji Senior High School. He trained in wushu from a young age with ambitions of becoming a martial arts actor like Jackie Chan, and he also learned to play the piano. Jun entered the entertainment industry at the age of two after being scouted for an advertisement alongside actor Nick Cheung. As a child, he appeared in several Chinese television series, including Flying Dragon – the Special Unit, Cross Border Daddy, and Go! Go! Daddy. His performance as Lin Zhihong in the 2007 Hong Kong film The Pye-Dog earned him a nomination for Best New Performer at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards. He subsequently portrayed the young Ip Man in The Legend Is Born: Ip Man in 2010 and featured in the 2013 film My Mother.
In 2012, Jun was scouted by Pledis Entertainment at a convenience store in China and moved to South Korea in October to begin trainee preparation. During this period, he appeared on the online program Seventeen TV, participated in Like Seventeen concerts and WAPOP Show 2, and was cast in the Chinese web drama Intouchable. He officially debuted as a member of Seventeen on May 26, 2015, using the stage name Jun, three days prior to the release of the group's debut EP, 17 Carat.
Alongside Seventeen's group schedule, Jun has pursued individual projects in music and television. In 2018, he competed on the Chinese music show Chao Yin Zhan Ji, winning its first solo stage competition, and co-hosted the music ranking show Yo! Bang. He released his debut solo single album, Can You Sit By My Side, in December 2018. His subsequent releases include the 2021 singles Crow and Silent Boarding Gate, the 2022 digital single Limbo, and the 2023 single Psycho. Crow marked his solo debut on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, while Limbo charted on music platforms in South Korea and China. He also contributed the song Dream to the soundtrack of The King: Eternal Monarch.

That same year, he won New Singer-Songwriter of the Year at the Tencent Music Entertainment Awards. In August 2024, he took a temporary break from group activities in South Korea to focus on acting in China, taking on roles in the television series The Whimsical Return and the feature films Blades of the Guardians and The Shadow's Edge.
