Demi Moore

Demi Gene Moore (born Demetria Gene Harmon; November 11, 1962) is an American actress and producer. She rose to prominence during the 1980s as a member of the Brat Pack and became the world's highest-paid actress by 1995. Her accolades include a Golden Globe Award, a Critics' Choice Award, and an Actor Award, as well as nominations for an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2025, she was included on Time's list of the 100 most influential people in the world and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Moore was born in Roswell, New Mexico. Her biological father deserted her mother before Moore was born, and she was raised by her stepfather, Dan Guynes, whose frequent job changes caused the family to relocate many times. During her youth, Moore dealt with health issues, including strabismus and kidney dysfunction. She dropped out of high school to work as a receptionist, subsequently signed with the Elite Modeling Agency, and enrolled in acting classes after being inspired by her neighbor, actress Nastassja Kinski.

After making her screen debut with guest television roles, Moore appeared in the feature films Choices (1981) and Parasite (1982). From 1981 to 1983, she played investigative reporter Jackie Templeton on the television soap opera General Hospital. She gained wider recognition through her roles in youth-oriented and feature films such as Blame It on Rio (1984), No Small Affair (1984), and St. Elmo's Fire (1985). Her career reached a positive turning point with the romantic dramedy About Last Night... (1986), which she followed with starring roles in The Seventh Sign (1988) and We're No Angels (1989).

Moore achieved global stardom for her performance as a grieving girlfriend in the supernatural romance Ghost (1990), which became the highest-grossing film of the year and earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She solidified her box office standing with leading roles in major hits such as A Few Good Men (1992), Indecent Proposal (1993), and Disclosure (1994). In 1996, she received a record-setting salary of $12.5 million to star in Striptease. Following commercial disappointments with The Scarlet Letter (1995), The Juror (1996), and G.I. Jane (1997), her film output significantly decreased.

In subsequent decades, Moore appeared in arthouse productions, supporting roles in films like Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003), Bobby (2006), Mr. Brooks (2007), Margin Call (2011), and Rough Night (2017), and television projects such as Empire (2017–2018), Feud: Capote vs. The Swans (2024), and Landman. She received renewed widespread recognition for her starring performance in the body horror film The Substance (2024), winning a Golden Globe and receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Moore has been married three times: to musician Freddy Moore from 1981 to 1985, to actor Bruce Willis from 1987 to 2000—with whom she has three daughters—and to Ashton Kutcher from 2005 to 2013. Her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, reached number one on The New York Times Best Seller list. In 2025, People magazine named her the most beautiful woman in the world.
