Shota Sometani

Shota Sometani is a Japanese actor originating from Koto, Tokyo. He has earned widespread recognition for starring as the main character in the feature films Himizu and Parasyte.

Sometani began his path in the entertainment industry as a child actor, building a career across both television and cinema. He secured his debut leading role in the 2009 movie Pandora's Box, which was based on a literary work by Osamu Dazai.

Following his early work, he featured in several notable film projects. In 2011, he acted in Shinji Aoyama's movie Tokyo Park. The following year, he appeared in Koji Wakamatsu's film The Millennial Rapture and took on a starring role in Gakuryu Ishii's production Isn't Anyone Alive?

Sometani achieved major international recognition for his performance in the 2011 film Himizu. For his role in the project, he and co-star Fumi Nikaidō were jointly honored with the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor at the Venice Film Festival.

In his personal life, Sometani married fellow Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi on December 31, 2014. The couple expanded their family a few years later, welcoming their first child in October 2016 and their second child toward the end of 2018.
