Her family includes an older brother and an older sister, Alice Hirose, who is also an actress.

Hirose began her career in fashion modeling alongside her sister Alice for the Japanese magazine Seventeen. She later transitioned into acting and gained widespread recognition after starring in the acclaimed feature film Our Little Sister as one of the titular siblings. The movie competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and won Picture of the Year at the 39th Japan Academy Film Prize, where Hirose received the Newcomer of the Year award for her performance.

Following her initial success, Hirose secured the lead role in the commercially successful live-action movie trilogy Chihayafuru. Her performance in Chihayafuru Part 1 earned her a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize. She received a second nomination in this category at the 44th edition of the same ceremony for her work in the film Not Quite Dead Yet.

In 2017, Hirose featured in the major success The Third Murder, which was included in the main competition at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. Her performance in the movie won her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 41st Japan Academy Film Prize, while the project itself was honored as Picture of the Year. She later earned another Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize for her role in A Morning of Farewell.

Hirose has also established a prominent presence on television. She performed as the lead protagonist in Natsuzora: Natsu's Sky, which marked the 100th Asadora production by NHK. Her television drama credits include roles in Kaitō Yamaneko in 2016 and Nemesis in 2021.

In addition to her screen acting, Hirose has been featured in numerous commercial campaigns since 2013. She frequently achieves top placements in public popularity rankings for public figures with the highest number of brand endorsement deals.
