Fumi Nikaido

Fumi Nikaido is a Japanese actress who has gained recognition for her performances in film and television. Born on September 21, 1994, she has established a prominent presence in the international film community through her various screen roles.

Nikaido was born and raised in Naha, located in the Okinawa Prefecture of Japan. She later entered the entertainment industry, making a notable early feature film appearance in Toad's Oil, a project directed by Koji Yakusho.

Her career achieved significant international acclaim for her role in director Shion Sono's film Himizu. Her performance in the movie earned her widespread attention from critics and industry professionals on the global film festival circuit.

In 2014, Nikaido's rising prominence was highlighted by international media and film organizations. She was featured in Variety magazine's list of notable international talent to watch, and the New York Asian Film Festival formally recognized her as an International Rising Star.

Throughout her acting career, Nikaido has earned major accolades. Notably, she shared the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor and Actress alongside co-star Shota Sometani at the 68th Venice International Film Festival in 2011 for her work in Himizu.

After adopting a pet ferret in 2015, her interest in these issues grew, leading her to adopt a pescatarian diet in 2018. In 2023, she expanded her environmental efforts into sustainable fashion by releasing a coat crafted from kapok, a plant-based material that completely excludes animal-derived components.

In her personal life, Nikaido announced her marriage to comedian Kazunori Kaneko in August 2025.
