Shun Oguri

Shun Oguri is a Japanese actor with more than 100 screen and voice credits across television, film, and animation. Born on December 26, 1982, he is the youngest of three siblings in a family connected to the entertainment industry. His father, Tetsuya Oguri, works as a stage director, while his older brother, Ryo, is an actor. Oguri began his career with background appearances in projects associated with his family members before making his formal acting debut at age thirteen in the 1995 historical television series Hachidai Shogun Yoshimune.

His early television performances gained significant attention following his role as a bullied student in the series Great Teacher Onizuka. This led to prominent roles in productions such as Summer Snow, where he played a deaf character, and the 2002 drama Gokusen. Oguri achieved widespread recognition through his breakthrough performance as Rui Hanazawa in the 2005 series Boys Over Flowers. He subsequently landed leading roles in popular television projects including Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, Binbo Danshi, and Tokyo Dogs.

Throughout the 2010s and beyond, Oguri expanded his television portfolio with diverse projects. He reunited with prior castmates for Veterinarian Dolittle and Ouroboros, played dual roles in the semi-historical live-action series Nobunaga Concerto, and joined the casts of historical dramas such as Segodon and The 13 Lords of the Shogun. His performance as a young executive in Rich Man, Poor Woman earned him a Best Actor honor at the 74th Drama Academy Awards. Later, he starred in the South Korean-Japanese co-production Romantics Anonymous.

In feature films, Oguri played lead roles in live-action adaptations including Shinichi Kudo's Written Challenge, Lupin the 3rd, and the Gintama series. His film history also encompasses Sukiyaki Western Django, Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, and Tsumi no Koe. In 2021, he made his Hollywood debut in Godzilla vs. Kong. As a voice performer, Oguri voiced characters in animated films such as Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa and the series Wangan Midnight. He also expanded into filmmaking, directing a commercial in 2009 followed by his feature directorial debut, Surely Someday, in 2010.

Beyond acting and directing, Oguri served as a radio host for All Night Nippon from 2007 to 2010 and participated in charity singing commercials following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. In 2023, he was appointed president of his agency, Tristone Entertainment. In his personal life, Oguri married actress and model Yu Yamada in March 2012, and the couple has four children.
