Takeru Satoh

Takeru Satoh is a Japanese actor who gained widespread recognition for portraying Ryotaro Nogami in the Kamen Rider Den-O franchise and Himura Kenshin in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movie series. Over his career, he has appeared in numerous television dramas, feature films, and stage productions, eventually expanding his work into executive production.

Born on March 21, 1989, in Iwatsuki-ku, Saitama, Satoh spent his youth playing baseball through primary and middle school and earned a black belt in Shorinji Kempo. His parents divorced while he was in middle school. During his early years, he worked briefly as a child actor in commercials and magazine shoots, though he paused acting due to a shy personality. He graduated from Koshigaya Kita High School in 2007. That same year, while filming Kamen Rider Den-O, he recovered from a diagnosis of primary pneumothorax.

Satoh entered the entertainment industry after being scouted by Amuse, Inc. in Harajuku while still in high school. He made his screen debut in the 2006 drama Princess Princess D. His visibility grew after playing the lead character in Kamen Rider Den-O in 2007. Despite taking a supporting role, Satoh considers the 2008 prime-time series Rookies to be his true breakthrough project due to its reach across a massive television audience.

Throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, Satoh diversified his roles in television and cinema. He appeared in television series including Bloody Monday, Mei's Butler, and his first Taiga drama Ryōmaden, before taking his first lead role on prime-time television in Q10 in 2010. His film projects during this period included Goemon and Beck. In May 2012, he made his theatrical stage debut portraying Romeo in a Japanese adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.

In August 2012, Satoh starred in the live-action adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin, which achieved strong box office performance in Japan. He reprised his role as Kenshin in two 2014 sequels and two additional films completed in 2019. His performance earned commendation from the manga author, and he was named a Cultural Friendship Ambassador to the Philippines alongside co-stars in 2014. Satoh gained further critical recognition for his work in the 2017 film The 8-Year Engagement, which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 41st Japan Academy Prize, as well as award-winning series such as The Emperor's Cook, Half Blue Sky, and Stepmom and Daughter Blues.

In March 2021, Satoh departed Amuse, Inc. to establish a new agency named Co-LaVo alongside co-actor Ryunosuke Kamiki. In December 2021, he became an unofficial member of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Elite Four. In 2025, Satoh starred in and co-executive produced the Netflix musical drama series Glass Heart.
