Sota Fukushi

Sota Fukushi is a Japanese actor born on May 30, 1993, in Tokyo, Japan. During his youth, he participated in basketball through middle school and joined a Double Dutch club in high school. Encouraged by his middle school English teacher, he developed an interest in learning English to pursue an international acting career, later obtaining a Grade 2 Eiken certificate. Inspired by actors Teruyuki Kagawa and Junichi Okada, Fukushi set goals to work in period dramas and learned the martial arts Jeet Kune Do and Arnis.

Fukushi entered acting after being scouted by the agency Ken-On, which discovered his photographs in a magazine following a street shoot in Shibuya. He joined the agency in September 2010 and debuted in the television series Misaki Number One!! in January 2011. Shortly after, he was chosen from approximately 3,000 applicants to portray Gentaro Kisaragi in Kamen Rider Fourze. He debuted the character in the 2011 film Kamen Rider OOO Wonderful: The Shogun and the 21 Core Medals before starring in the main television series and the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Mega Max.

In 2013, Fukushi gained widespread recognition appearing as Koichi Taneichi in the NHK television drama Amachan, while also featuring in the films Library Wars and Enoshima Prism. His performance led him to top Oricon's breakthrough actor rankings in 2013 and 2014. He followed this with lead roles in the romance film Say "I Love You", Takashi Miike's supernatural horror film As the Gods Will, and In the Hero, which collectively earned him the Best New Actor Award at the 38th Japan Academy Awards. During this era, he also starred in the film Strobe Edge, the drama Koinaka, and the romance film My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday.

Between 2017 and 2022, Fukushi starred in films such as To Each His Own, Blade of the Immortal, Laplace's Witch, Bleach, The Travelling Cat Chronicles, and Kaiji: Final Game. He made his stage debut in late 2017 in Seven Souls in the Skull Castle Season Moon Waxing Crescent Moon. His television work included roles in My Lover's Secret, Heaven?: My Restaurant, My Life, Meiji Kaika: Shinjuro Tanteicho, In His Chart, Avalanche, and Hoshi Kara Kita Anata, the Japanese adaptation of My Love from the Star.

In 2023, Fukushi ventured into international roles, playing engineer Yuto Nakamura in English for the second season of Hulu's The Head. He subsequently starred in the television series Attorney Sodom, the feature film The Women in the Lakes, and the drama Ai no Nai Koibitotachi. He further expanded his global projects by starring in the Netflix series Can This Love Be Translated?, marking his first South Korean production.
