Born in Cairo, Egypt, on September 17, 1991, to Coptic Orthodox Christian parents, he emigrated with his family to Canada at three years old and grew up in Toronto. He attended St. Brother André Catholic High School, where he led the improv team, and initially pursued neuroscience at the University of Toronto to become a doctor or psychologist. He later left the program to audition for theatre schools, graduating from Ryerson University's theatre performance program in 2014.
Massoud began his screen acting career in 2011 with guest roles on the television series Nikita and Combat Hospital. In 2015, he appeared as Jared Malik in the Canadian drama series Open Heart. He made his feature film debut playing Ollie Santos in the 2017 Canadian dramatic thriller Ordinary Days, which premiered at the Atlantic International University. In 2018, he secured a recurring role as Tarek Kassar in the Amazon Prime series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan.
His global breakthrough arrived in 2019 when he played the title character in Disney's live-action fantasy film Aladdin. The film grossed over $1 billion worldwide and earned him nominations for a Teen Choice Award and two National Film & TV Awards. That same year, he starred as Ethan Hart in the Hulu series Reprisal, appeared in the films Strange but True and Run This Town, and was honored at Egypt's El Gouna Film Festival.
Massoud subsequently expanded his work across film and television projects. He starred in the Netflix film The Royal Treatment in 2022 and executive produced and starred in the horror film The Sacrifice Game in 2023. He also announced involvement in the Egyptian film Fe Ez El-Dohr, a planned Aladdin sequel, and producing the film The Last King. He hosted the Canadian television series Evolving Vegan in 2023, starred in the romance drama Wish You Were Here in 2025, and was cast as the prophet Daniel in a 2026 project.
Beyond acting, Massoud launched the Ethnically Diverse Artists Foundation in 2019 to assist underrepresented Canadian artists. He was appointed an ambassador for Egypt's Ministry of Migration's Speak Egyptian initiative, released a cookbook titled Evolving Vegan, and co-founded Dharma Indian Dry Gin in 2022. Massoud is a vegan, married actress Emily Shah in 2025, and maintains his Coptic Orthodox Christian faith.
