Nick Kroll

Nicholas Kroll is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. He is widely recognized for co-creating and starring in the Netflix animated series Big Mouth, as well as its related shows Human Resources and Mating Season. Additionally, he created and starred in the Comedy Central series Kroll Show, appeared in the Hulu sketch comedy show History of the World, Part II, and starred in the FX comedy series The League.

Born on June 5, 1978, in Rye, New York, Kroll is the youngest child of Lynn and Jules Kroll, a billionaire businessman who founded Kroll Inc. Raised in a Conservative Jewish family alongside three siblings, he attended the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, Rye Country Day School, and briefly The Mountain School in Vermont. In 2001, he graduated from Georgetown University, where he studied history, art, Spanish, and media studies.

Early in his career, Kroll co-authored the 2005 book Bar Mitzvah Disco and wrote for shows such as Chappelle's Show and Human Giant. He performed regularly at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, co-hosted Welcome to Our Week, and toured with Aziz Ansari in 2008. His performance style blends stand-up, sketches, and character work. In 2011, Comedy Central released his special Thank You Very Cool. Alongside John Mulaney, Kroll created the character Gil Faizon for The Oh, Hello Show, which toured nationally, ran on Broadway for six months starting in 2016, and was released on Netflix in 2017.

Kroll's early television breakthrough was the ABC sitcom Cavemen. He went on to appear on VH1's Best Week Ever and guest-starred on programs including Parks and Recreation, Community, New Girl, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He portrayed Rodney Ruxin on The League from 2009 to 2015 while concurrently running Kroll Show. Kroll also provided voice acting for television series such as The Life & Times of Tim, Sit Down, Shut Up, and WordGirl, and co-created Big Mouth in 2017. His work on Big Mouth subsequently led to the creation of the production company Brutus Pink.

In film, Kroll has held roles in live-action comedies like I Love You, Man, Get Him to the Greek, Date Night, and Adult Beginners, as well as historical dramas such as Loving and Operation Finale. He has extensively voice-acted in animated features, including Sausage Party, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, the Sing films, The Secret Life of Pets 2, The Bob's Burgers Movie, and Smurfs.

Kroll was named Breakout Star of the Year at the 2013 Just For Laughs festival. In his personal life, he dated Amy Poehler from 2013 to 2015. He later married landscape artist Lily Kwong in November 2020, and the couple has two children, born in January 2021 and November 2023. Ahead of the 2020 United States elections, Kroll participated in the #IDCheck Challenge from VoteRiders to raise voter awareness.
