Léa Seydoux

Léa Hélène Seydoux-Fornier de Clausonne is a French actress active in both domestic cinema and Hollywood. She is widely recognized for playing Madeleine Swann in the James Bond films Spectre and No Time to Die, as well as for her starring performance in the award-winning drama Blue Is the Warmest Colour.

Seydoux was born on 1 July 1985 in Paris, France, to Henri Jérôme Seydoux-Fornier de Clausonne, a businessman, and Valérie Schlumberger, a philanthropist. Her family is prominent in French cinema, with relatives holding executive roles at companies such as Pathé and Gaumont. Raised in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, she initially aimed to become an opera singer and studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris. However, shyness led her to abandon singing, and at eighteen she chose to pursue acting, training at Les Enfants Terribles in France and the Actors Studio in New York.

Seydoux made her feature acting debut in the 2006 film Girlfriends. She quickly gained attention in French cinema through works such as The Beautiful Person, Belle Épine, and Farewell, My Queen. During this period, she expanded her career internationally with supporting roles in high-profile Hollywood projects, including Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Her career breakthrough occurred with the 2013 release Blue Is the Warmest Colour. Her performance in the film earned widespread acclaim, leading to a joint Palme d'Or presentation at the Cannes Film Festival alongside her co-star and director. In the following years, she took on diverse roles in productions such as Grand Central, Beauty and the Beast, Saint Laurent, Diary of a Chambermaid, and The Lobster.

Seydoux achieved broader global visibility by starring as Madeleine Swann in Spectre and No Time to Die. She also featured in Wes Anderson's ensemble films The Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch. Her subsequent projects include France, Crimes of the Future, One Fine Morning, The Beast, and Dune: Part Two, alongside character work for the video games Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Outside acting, she has worked as a model for magazines like Vogue Paris and W, and became a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador in 2016.

Over her career, Seydoux has received five César Award nominations, two Lumière Awards, the Trophée Chopard, and a BAFTA Award nomination. In recognition of her contributions, she was appointed a Dame of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2016 and a Dame of the National Order of Merit in 2022.
