Charlene Choi

Charlene Choi Tsoek-jin is a Hong Kong and Canadian performer known for her work as both a singer and an actress. She gained widespread prominence as one half of the popular Hong Kong music duo Twins, performing alongside Gillian Chung. Alongside her pop music endeavors, she has established a prolific acting career across Hong Kong cinema, mainland Chinese productions, and television.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 22 November 1982, Choi relocated to Hong Kong with her family a few years later. She completed her schooling at Marymount Secondary School and Rosaryhill School. Fluent in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, she began working as a full-time commercial model shortly after graduating. Her potential was recognized by Emperor Entertainment Group, which signed her and subsequently paired her with Gillian Chung to launch Twins.

Choi transitioned into acting with a main role in the 2000 television series Youth Y2K. Her feature film debut came in 2001 with Funeral March, earning her a nomination for Best New Performer at the 21st Hong Kong Film Awards. She achieved further critical attention with her performance in Diva – Ah Hey in 2003. She later earned acclaim for her roles in the psychological thriller Diary, winning Best Actress at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, and the comedy Simply Actors, which secured her Best Actress and Favourite Actress honors at the Golden Bauhinia Awards.

Throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, Choi took on diverse roles across multiple film and television projects. Her notable movie credits include the action-comedy Kung Fu Dunk, the romantic drama The Butterfly Lovers, the hit martial arts feature The Storm Warriors, Beauty on Duty, and Triple Tap. On television, she starred in the Taiwanese drama Calling For Love and the mainland Chinese series Sword Heroes' Fate. Later in her career, she performed her own stunt work in the Waiver Ka Fai action thriller Detective vs Sleuths.

Alongside her work with Twins, Choi launched a successful solo musical career. After contributing individual tracks to group releases, she issued her first independent charity single, "Make a Wish," in 2008. She scored a hit with "Little Dimples," a duet with JJ Lin, before releasing her debut solo studio album, Two Without One, in 2009. The album rapidly achieved Platinum certification in Hong Kong, followed by her EP Another Me and her debut Mandarin album As A Sa. Her strong record sales earned her recognition among the top-selling artists at the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Awards.

In recent years, Choi has continued to release music and participate in major media projects. To mark Twins' 20th anniversary, she reunited with Chung for new singles and an online concert, and later competed in the third season of the reality competition Sisters Who Make Waves, placing seventh. Outside entertainment, she has been an active philanthropist, supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, publishing an autobiographical book titled Single Family's Love to raise charity funds, and serving as an ambassador for the 30 Hours Famine program in Nepal.
