Hu Ge

Hu Ge, born on September 20, 1982, is a Chinese actor and singer. He gained widespread recognition after starring as Li Xiaoyao in the 2005 television series Chinese Paladin. Over his career, he has achieved significant prominence in Chinese television and cinema, starring in acclaimed productions such as Nirvana in Fire, The Disguiser, and Blossoms Shanghai, alongside feature films including The Wild Goose Lake.

Hu was born in the Xuhui District of Shanghai to a tennis coach father and a teacher mother. He received early performing arts instruction at the Little Stars Performing Arts School. During his youth, he attended Shanghai Xiang Yang Elementary School and Shanghai No.2 High School. At age fourteen, he began hosting the television show Sunshine Youth and took on radio hosting duties. Commercial acting provided him with financial independence before he enrolled at the Shanghai Theatre Academy in 2001.

While attending university, Hu signed with Chinese Entertainment Shanghai after working as a voice dubbing artist. Following early acting roles in the movie Pretend There's No Feeling and the drama Dandelion, his major breakthrough arrived in 2005 with Chinese Paladin, for which he also performed the theme song June Rain. In subsequent years, he appeared in period projects such as Strange Tales of Liao Zhai, The Little Fairy, and The Young Warriors, released his debut EP Treasure, and starred in the movie The 601st Phone Call.

In August 2006, Hu survived a severe automobile crash that required extensive surgical reconstruction and forced a hiatus. He chronicled his recovery in the book Scavenger of Happiness. Upon returning to screen acting, he starred in The Legend of the Condor Heroes in 2008 and released his album Start. He continued his success with roles in Chinese Paladin 3 and the 2010 hit series The Myth. Seeking to diversify his portfolio, he expanded into modern dramas, historical films like 1911, and produced the fantasy series Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky.

In 2013, Hu turned his focus to stage acting, earning critical praise for his performances in A Dream Like a Dream and Forever Yin Xueyan. His television career reached new heights in 2015 through leading roles in the espionage drama The Disguiser and the critically acclaimed historical series Nirvana in Fire. He followed these successes with the drama Good Times, the sports series Go! Goal! Fighting!, and the suspense film Cherry Returns.

Following a brief hiatus in 2017, Hu starred in Game of Hunting before shifting focus toward feature films, including roles in The Wild Goose Lake, Last Letter, The Climbers, All Ears, and G for Gap. In 2023, he starred in the television drama Blossoms Shanghai. Throughout his career, Hu has received multiple accolades, including Best Actor honors at both the Magnolia Awards and Golden Eagle Awards, and has repeatedly appeared on the Forbes China Celebrity List. He married Huang Xining, with whom he has a daughter.
