About Son Chaeyoung

Son Chae-young, known mononymously as Chaeyoung, is a South Korean singer and rapper. Born in Seoul, South Korea, on April 23, 1999, she is best known as a member of the girl group Twice, formed by JYP Entertainment in 2015. In addition to her activities with Twice, she has established herself as a solo artist and lyricist.

Chaeyoung developed an interest in the performing arts at a young age and modeled for a children's magazine. After taking dance lessons for over a year, she decided to pursue a career as a singer and successfully auditioned for JYP Entertainment at age 13. As a trainee, she appeared in the music videos for Got7's "Stop Stop It" in 2014 and Miss A's "Only You" in 2015. She later attended Hanlim Multi Art School alongside her bandmate Tzuyu, graduating in 2019.

In 2015, Chaeyoung participated in the reality television competition Sixteen, placing sixth out of nine debut spots to join Twice. The group officially debuted on October 20, 2015, with the extended play (EP) The Story Begins. Chaeyoung became the first member of Twice to receive writing credits after penning a rap verse for "Precious Love" on the 2016 EP Page Two, and later became the first member to earn a composition credit for the track "How U Doin'" on the Japanese album &Twice. She also designed the limited edition cover for Page Two and three pairs of Spris shoes.

Alongside group activities, Chaeyoung released solo covers for the Melody Project series, including songs by Cheeze, Justin Bieber, and Eddie Benjamin. In 2022, she began learning guitar and performed her unreleased solo song "My Guitar" on Twice's Ready to Be World Tour. She collaborated on a remix of Coco & Clair Clair's song "Pop Star" in October 2023. In addition to her musical work, she was appointed as a brand ambassador for Italian fashion house Etro in Japan in September 2023 and became the brand muse for Japanese cosmetics brand CipiCipi in November 2023.

Chaeyoung made her official solo debut on September 12, 2025, with the studio album Lil Fantasy Vol. 1 and its lead single "Shoot (Firecracker)." The album debuted at number three on South Korea's Circle Album Chart and was named one of the best K-pop albums of 2025 by Idology, Rolling Stone, and Billboard. Following a feature on Sokodomo's single "Wake Up" in November 2025, she temporarily went on hiatus for the remainder of the year after being diagnosed with vasovagal syncope.

In August 2026, Chaeyoung departed JYP Entertainment and founded her independent label, Lil Fantasy, for her solo career, while remaining an active member of Twice. In her personal life, Chaeyoung is Catholic and uses the baptismal name Katarina. On April 5, 2024, JYP Entertainment confirmed that she was in a relationship with singer-songwriter Zion.T.
