Mina (Japanese singer)

Mina Myoi, known mononymously as Mina, is a Japanese singer and dancer based in South Korea. Born Mina Sharon Myoi on March 24, 1997, she is best known as a member of the South Korean girl group Twice, which debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2015. She is also a member of Twice's subgroup MiSaMo, which debuted in 2023.

Mina was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Japanese expatriate parents, Sachiko and Akira Myoi. As a toddler, she relocated with her family to Japan and grew up in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo Prefecture. Her father works as an orthopedic surgeon at Osaka University Hospital in Suita, and she has an older brother named Kai. Mina began training in classical ballet at three years old, practicing for eleven years before training at a K-pop dance studio for a year. She attended Obayashi Sacred Heart School in Takarazuka until 2013, dropping out during her second year of high school to become a trainee in South Korea. Additionally, Mina held dual Japanese and American citizenship until she gave up her American citizenship in 2019.

While shopping with her mother in Osaka, Mina was approached and offered an audition by a recruiter from JYP Entertainment. She moved to South Korea in January 2014 to become a trainee. In 2015, she competed on the reality television show Sixteen, created by JYP Entertainment and co-produced by Mnet. She emerged as one of nine successful participants selected to join the newly formed girl group Twice.

Mina officially debuted with Twice in October 2015 upon the release of their first extended play, The Story Begins. The EP's lead single, "Like Ooh-Ahh," became the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million views on YouTube. In July 2019, JYP Entertainment announced that Mina would sit out the remainder of the Twicelights World Tour due to severe anxiety and performance-related insecurity, and she was later diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. She rejoined the tour in a limited capacity in October 2019 and resumed full participation in February 2020 at a concert in Fukuoka.

In February 2023, JYP Entertainment announced that Mina, alongside bandmates Sana and Momo, would officially debut in Japan as the sub-unit MiSaMo. Prior to releasing their debut extended play, Masterpiece, on July 26, 2023, the trio released the track "Bouquet" in January 2023 as part of the soundtrack for the TV Asahi drama series Liaison: Kodomo no Kokoro Shinryōjo.

Since her debut, Mina has been recognized in South Korea and abroad as one of Twice's strongest dancers alongside Momo. The Chosun Ilbo has credited her popularity with helping to improve relations between Japan and South Korea. In Gallup Korea's 2019 annual music poll, she was voted the 20th most popular idol in South Korea.

Mina has also engaged in several major brand endorsements. In early 2022, she was announced as the new muse for the South Korean luxury fashion brand Metrocity. In March 2022, she became the global brand ambassador for the Japanese cosmetics brand SK-II. She was later appointed as the Japan ambassador for the French luxury jewelry and watch house Boucheron in August 2024, followed by her appointment as the Japan ambassador for the Italian luxury fashion house Fendi in January 2025.
