Demi Lovato

Demetria Devonne Lovato, born August 20, 1992, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Raised in Dallas, Texas, she is the daughter of former cheerleader Dianna De La Garza and musician Patrick Martin Lovato. She began her musical and performing education at a young age, playing piano at age seven and starting guitar, dancing, and acting classes at ten. Lovato began her professional acting career on the children's television series Barney & Friends in 2002.

Lovato gained wider prominence after starring in the Disney Channel short series As the Bell Rings and securing the lead role of Mitchie Torres in the 2008 musical television film Camp Rock. Her debut single from the soundtrack, "This Is Me" featuring Joe Jonas, reached number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100. Following this breakthrough, she signed with Hollywood Records and released her pop rock debut studio album, Don't Forget, in 2008, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200. Her second studio album, Here We Go Again (2009), debuted at number one on the same chart.

Alongside her music career, Lovato starred as the title character on the Disney Channel sitcom Sonny with a Chance from 2009 to 2011 and co-starred in the 2009 television film Princess Protection Program. She reprised her role in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010. Exploring pop and R&B styles, her third studio album, Unbroken (2011), featured the top-ten single "Skyscraper" and the multi-platinum single "Give Your Heart a Break". In 2012, she joined the American reality competition series The X Factor as a judge and mentor, serving for two seasons.

Her fourth studio album, Demi (2013), and fifth album, Confident (2015), sustained her commercial presence, with Confident earning a Grammy Award nomination. Her 2017 single "Sorry Not Sorry", from the album Tell Me You Love Me, reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100. Lovato later released Dancing with the Devil... the Art of Starting Over (2021), the rock-influenced Holy Fvck (2022), and It's Not That Deep (2025). Her film and television credits include roles on Glee and Will & Grace, voice roles in Smurfs: The Lost Village and Charming, and appearances in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Child Star, and Tow.

Over her career, Lovato has sold over 30 million records worldwide and earned accolades including an MTV Video Music Award, fourteen Teen Choice Awards, five People's Choice Awards, and a Guinness World Record. She was featured on the Time 100 list in 2017 and co-founded Safehouse Records in 2015. Her personal struggles with substance abuse, eating disorders, and self-harm informed her self-help book Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year and several documentaries, including Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.
