Meghan Trainor

Meghan Elizabeth Trainor, born December 22, 1993, is an American singer-songwriter and television personality. She gained widespread recognition after signing with Epic Records in 2014 and releasing her debut single "All About That Bass." The song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, topped charts in 58 countries, and sold 11 million copies worldwide. Over her career, Trainor has earned numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, two Billboard Music Awards, and four ASCAP Pop Music Awards.

Trainor was raised in Nantucket, Massachusetts, by her jeweler parents, Kelli and Gary Trainor, alongside an older brother and a younger brother. Encouraged by her family, she began singing at age six at a Methodist church with her father, who was an organist and music teacher. By age 12, Trainor joined the cover band Island Fusion, performing soca music and her own songs while playing piano, guitar, and bongo drums for four years. She wrote her first original song at 13 and later attended Nauset Regional High School, where she played trumpet, studied guitar, and sang in a jazz band. She also attended summer music education programs at the Berklee College of Music in 2009 and 2010.

Between the ages of 15 and 17, Trainor independently released three self-produced albums: Meghan Trainor, I'll Sing with You, and Only 17. In 2012, after graduating high school and turning down a full scholarship to Berklee, she signed a publishing contract with Big Yellow Dog Music. Working as a songwriter-for-hire, she composed tracks across multiple genres for other artists. She relocated to Nashville in late 2013, writing songs for acts such as Rascal Flatts, Hunter Hayes, R5, and Sabrina Carpenter.

In late 2013, Trainor co-wrote "All About That Bass" with producer Kevin Kadish. After performing the song for Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid, she was signed to the label. Following the single's major commercial success in 2014, Trainor released her major-label debut EP Title, followed by her 2015 full-length studio album of the same name. The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and featured hit singles including "Lips Are Movin" and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You." To support her music, she launched her first headlining concert tour, That Bass Tour, in early 2015.

Trainor released her R&B-influenced second major-label album, Thank You, in 2016, led by the top-three Billboard Hot 100 single "No." She later expanded into electronic dance music with Treat Myself (2020) and released A Very Trainor Christmas (2020). Her subsequent studio albums include the doo-wop and bubblegum pop projects Takin' It Back (2022)—which featured the international top-five single "Made You Look"—and Timeless (2024).

Musically, Trainor blends pop, R&B, doo-wop, and blue-eyed soul, drawing inspiration from 1950s popular music. Her lyrics frequently address themes of womanhood, body image, and personal empowerment. Outside of recorded music, she contributed voice roles to the animated movies Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) and Playmobil: The Movie (2019). Additionally, Trainor has served as a judge on television talent competitions, including The Four: Battle for Stardom, The Voice UK, and Australian Idol.
