Jason Derulo

Jason Joel Desrouleaux, known professionally as Jason Derulo (formerly stylized as Derülo), is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer born on September 21, 1989. Since beginning his solo recording career in 2009, he has sold more than 250 million singles globally and earned fourteen platinum singles in the United States.

Derulo was born in Miramar, Florida, to Haitian parents, and Haitian Creole was his first language. His mother attended law school. He began singing at a young age, attended performing arts schools in Florida—including The American Musical and Dramatic Academy—and wrote his first song at eight years old. As a teenager, his songwriting skills attracted industry attention, leading him to compose music for artists such as Diddy, Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Sean Kingston, Cassie, and Lil Wayne. He also featured on tracks for Pitbull and Birdman. In 2006, Derulo won the grand prize on the television series Showtime at the Apollo.

After being discovered by music producer J. R. Rotem, Derulo signed to Beluga Heights Records, which later became part of Warner Music Group. He released his debut single, "Whatcha Say," in 2009. The track sold over five million digital downloads, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, and earned a quintuple platinum certification. He followed this success with the top-ten singles "In My Head" and "Ridin' Solo," as well as his self-titled debut album in 2010. His second studio album, Future History (2011), yielded the UK chart-topping single "Don't Wanna Go Home." In 2013, he released his third international album, Tattoos, which was repackaged in the United States as Talk Dirty in 2014 and produced hits such as "Talk Dirty," "Trumpets," and "Wiggle."

Derulo released his fourth studio album, Everything Is 4, in 2015, propelled by the lead single "Want to Want Me." That same year, he served as a judge on the twelfth season of So You Think You Can Dance, having previously appeared as a dance master on the Australian series Everybody Dance Now in 2012. In 2016, he issued his compilation album Platinum Hits and guest-starred in an episode of the drama series Lethal Weapon. He also portrayed the character Rum Tum Tugger in the 2019 feature film adaptation of Cats.

In 2020, Derulo released "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)" with producer Jawsh 685, which topped charts internationally; a subsequent remix featuring BTS became Derulo's second number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. After parting ways with Warner Music Group due to creative differences, he signed with Atlantic Records in 2021. Derulo released his fifth studio album, Nu King, in 2024, which featured several of his previously released tracks, including "Swalla" and "Take You Dancing."
