Jordin Sparks

Jordin Brianna Sparks Smith, born December 22, 1989, is an American singer and actress. She gained national prominence in 2007 after winning the sixth season of the television singing competition American Idol at the age of 17. Her victory established her as the youngest winner in the history of the series. Following her victory, Sparks established a career spanning music, stage, and screen, becoming one of the most commercially successful contestants from the show's run.

Sparks was born in Phoenix, Arizona, to Jodi Wiedmann Sparks and former professional American football player Phillippi Sparks. She grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey, while her father played for the New York Giants, before returning to Phoenix to attend school. To focus on her singing, she was later homeschooled by her grandmother. Prior to her national breakthrough, Sparks won several regional and national talent competitions, performed the national anthem at professional sporting events, and worked as a model after winning Torrid's search for the Next Plus Size Model in 2006.

In 2006, Sparks auditioned for American Idol and earned a spot in the competition, ultimately winning the title in May 2007. Later that year, she released her self-titled debut studio album, which debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200 and received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The album featured the top-ten singles "Tattoo" and "No Air," a duet with Chris Brown that received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and became one of the highest-selling digital singles by an American Idol alumnus.

Her second studio album, Battlefield, was released in 2009 and debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200. Its title track reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, making Sparks the only American Idol contestant to have her first five singles reach the top twenty of the chart. During this period, she supported her releases by touring alongside artists such as Alicia Keys, the Jonas Brothers, and Britney Spears, and launched her first headlining tour in 2010.

Sparks subsequently expanded her music career through independent and imprint label releases, including the mixtape #ByeFelicia in 2014 and her third studio album, Right Here Right Now, in 2015. She continued releasing studio projects in later years, including Cider & Hennessy in 2020 and No Restrictions in 2024.

Beyond her musical releases, Sparks expanded into acting, television, and Broadway. She made her stage debut as Nina Rosario in the musical In The Heights in 2010 and her feature film debut as the title character in Sparkle in 2012. Additionally, she launched a line of personal fragrances beginning with Because of You... in 2010, followed by Fascinate and Ambition in 2012. Her career achievements have earned her an NAACP Image Award, an American Music Award, a People's Choice Award, a BET Award, and two Teen Choice Awards.
