Kim Tae-hyung, known professionally as V, is a South Korean singer born on December 30, 1995, in the Seo District of Daegu. Raised in Geochang County, he is the eldest of three children. V developed an interest in becoming a singer during elementary school and took saxophone lessons in middle school. He became a trainee for Big Hit Entertainment after passing an audition in Daegu. He graduated from Korean Arts High School in 2014, earned a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University in 2020, and enrolled at Hanyang Cyber University in 2021 to pursue a Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media.

V made his debut as a member of the boy band BTS on June 13, 2013, performing the track "No More Dream". Kept as a secret member prior to debut, he later contributed to BTS's catalog as a writer and producer, earning early credits on the 2015 extended play The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1. V performed three solo songs under the BTS name—"Stigma" in 2016, "Singularity" in 2018, and "Inner Child" in 2020—all of which charted on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.

Expanding into television and independent music, V made his acting debut in the 2016 drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, contributing the soundtrack duet "It's Definitely You" with bandmate Jin. In 2019, he released his self-composed independent song "Scenery", which set streaming records on SoundCloud, followed by his first all-English track, "Winter Bear". He also recorded soundtrack songs for television series, including "Sweet Night" for Itaewon Class in 2020 and "Christmas Tree" for Our Beloved Summer in 2021, with the latter earning him a spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

V continued his solo career with appearances in the reality shows In the Soop: Friendcation in 2022 and Jinny's Kitchen in 2023. In 2023, he served as a brand ambassador for companies including SimInvest, Celine, Cartier, and Compose Coffee, and was named honorary tourism ambassador for Seoul. On September 8, 2023, V released his debut solo EP, Layover, alongside singles such as "Love Me Again", "Rainy Days", and "Slow Dancing". The EP recorded the highest first-week sales by a K-pop solo artist in Hanteo Chart history and tied for the highest-charting Korean solo album on the Billboard 200 at number two.

Recognized for his baritone voice and jazz-influenced style, V has received multiple honors alongside BTS, including the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit in 2018 and an appointment as Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture in 2021. In December 2023, V enlisted for mandatory military service, serving in the Special Task Force of the Military Police Corps before his discharge on June 10, 2025. In March 2025, he donated ₩200 million for wildfire recovery efforts in South Korea.
