About BTS
Origins and Formation
BTS, also known as Bangtan Sonyeondan or Beyond The Scene, is a renowned seven-member South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment, now known as BIGHIT MUSIC under HYBE Corporation. The group was assembled in Seoul, South Korea, through a gradual scouting and audition process led by producer Bang Si-hyuk in the early 2010s. BTS made their official music industry debut on June 13, 2013, with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool and its lead track No More Dream. From their inception, the group distinguished themselves by taking an active role in writing, producing, and composing much of their own music, addressing youth-centric themes such as mental health, self-love, social commentary, personal identity, and the challenges of growing up.

The septet consists of seven distinct musical artists who contribute to the group's signature sound, vocal versatility, and performance dynamics. Early Career and International Breakthrough
After debuting with hip-hop-oriented releases, BTS achieved widespread recognition in South Korea with their 2015 extended play The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1, and its breakout single I Need U. This era marked a transition toward a broader musical palette, incorporating pop, electronic, and contemporary rhythm and blues elements. The momentum expanded rapidly with the release of their second studio album, Wings, in 2016, which earned the band their first grand prize for Album of the Year at major South Korean award ceremonies. Wings also became the highest-charting K-pop album on the US Billboard 200 chart at the time, establishing BTS as a rising international force with a growing global fanbase.
Global Stardom and Historic Milestones
Between 2017 and 2021, BTS achieved unprecedented global success, dismantling cultural and language barriers across the Western music industry. The Love Yourself album trilogy, spanning 2017 to 2018, propelled them to the top of music charts worldwide, with Love Yourself: Tear becoming the first album by a South Korean act to reach number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. Their subsequent studio albums, Map of the Soul: 7 and BE, both debuted atop international music charts upon release in 2020. In August 2020, BTS released their first all-English single, Dynamite, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, making them the first all-South Korean act to top the chart. Dynamite earned the group their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Subsequent singles, including Butter, Permission to Dance, Life Goes On, and their collaboration with Coldplay on My Universe, further solidified their position atop global music charts.
Hiatus, Military Service, and Solo Endeavors
In mid-2022, BTS announced a planned pause in collective group projects to fulfill their mandatory military service commitments under South Korean law and to pursue individual artistic endeavors. Over the following three years, each member released acclaimed solo projects that highlighted their personal musical tastes and artistic directions. Member enlistments commenced in late 2022 with Jin, followed sequentially by J-Hope, RM, V, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga. Throughout this period, fans remained deeply engaged with the group through recorded archival releases, documentary films, and individual promotional activities. All seven members officially completed their mandatory service commitments by June 2025, paving the way for their full group reunion.
Reunion, 2026 Comeback, and Beyond
Following their reunion in mid-2025, BTS concentrated on writing and producing their latest studio album, Arirang, released in March 2026. The album marked their first studio album in nearly six years and was accompanied by an extensive, high-profile stadium tour, the Arirang World Tour, launching in April 2026 across major venues in Asia, North America, Europe, South America, and Oceania. The comeback underscored the enduring global demand for the group, with concert dates selling out rapidly and new music charting prominently around the world.
Cultural and Economic Impact
Beyond their musical achievements, BTS has generated a profound cultural and economic impact globally. Their devoted fan base, known as ARMY, constitutes one of the largest and most organized fan communities in the world. BTS has used their platform to advocate for social causes, partnering with UNICEF for the Love Myself anti-violence campaign and speaking at multiple sessions of the United Nations General Assembly. In 2022, the group visited the White House to discuss Asian inclusion and address anti-Asian hatred. Recognized by the South Korean government with the Order of Cultural Merit, BTS is widely credited with elevating Korean culture globally and contributing billions of dollars annually to the domestic economy.
