Soleil Moon Frye

Soleil Moon Frye is an American actress, director, author, and entrepreneur who began her career as a child performer. She is best known for starring as Penelope "Punky" Brewster in the sitcom Punky Brewster and for playing Roxie King in the television series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She is also widely recognized for her voice acting career, particularly for portraying Zoey Howzer in the Proud Family franchise.

Frye was born in Glendora, California, to actor Virgil Frye and talent agent and caterer Sondra Peluce. Her parents divorced when she was two, and she was raised in her mother's Jewish faith. She was educated at a private school in Los Feliz and attended the San Fernando Valley Professional School in Burbank. Frye began acting at age two, making her television movie debut in Missing Children: A Mother's Story in 1982, followed by roles in Who Will Love My Children?, Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter, and Invitation to Hell.

In 1984, Frye won the title role in the NBC sitcom Punky Brewster after beating out thousands of candidates. The series premiered in September 1984, and while it struggled in overall ratings, the character became popular among young children. During this period, Frye participated in anti-drug walks with First Lady Nancy Reagan and served as an honorary chairman for the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She also voiced the character in the animated spin-off It's Punky Brewster. After NBC canceled the show in 1986, it continued in first-run syndication for two more seasons until ending in 1988. Following the series, Frye hosted the syndicated weekly show Girl Talk in 1989 and appeared in pilots for Cadets and ...Where's Rodney?.

During the 1990s, Frye guest-starred on television series including The Wonder Years, Saved by the Bell, and Friends, while voicing characters in animated shows such as Tiny Toon Adventures and The Ren & Stimpy Show. She also appeared in feature films including The Liars' Club and Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, as well as theatrical stage productions. In the late 1990s, she moved to New York to attend The New School and made her directorial feature debut with the 1998 film Wild Horses.

From 2000 to 2003, Frye played Sabrina Spellman's roommate Roxie King in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. During this period, she began voicing Zoey Howzer in the animated series The Proud Family and its subsequent television movie, later reprising the role in the revival series The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. She also provided voice work for the Bratz franchise and Planet Sheen. In 2021, she reprised her famous title role in a one-season revival of Punky Brewster on Peacock.

Beyond acting, Frye directed the 2004 documentary Sonny Boy, which chronicled a trip with her father and won Best Documentary at the San Diego Film Festival, and the 2021 Hulu documentary Kid 90. Her other ventures include co-founding the eco-friendly children's boutique The Little Seed in 2007, hosting Home Made Simple on the Oprah Winfrey Network from 2013 to 2014, and publishing books such as Happy Chaos and Let's Get This Party Started.

In her personal life, Frye was married to producer Jason Goldberg from 1998 until their divorce was finalized in 2022. The couple shares four children.
