Nick Carter

Nickolas Gene Carter, born January 28, 1980, is an American singer best known as a lead vocalist for the vocal group Backstreet Boys. Over his career, he has balanced group projects with a solo music career, releasing four solo albums as of 2025: Now or Never, I'm Taking Off, All American, and Love Life Tragedy. Carter has also participated in collaborative music endeavors, made television appearances, and starred in reality television shows such as House of Carters and I (Heart) Nick Carter.

Carter was born in Jamestown, New York, to Jane Eleonora Schneck and Robert Carter. When he was four, his family moved to Ruskin, Florida, where his parents managed a retirement home. Raised alongside several siblings, Carter began voice lessons with Marianne Prinkey as a child and enrolled in dance classes at age ten. During his youth, he appeared in local commercials, talent shows, an educational video, and performed at Tampa Bay Buccaneers home games, alongside a brief background appearance in the 1990 film Edward Scissorhands.

In 1992, at age twelve, Carter won the New Original Amateur Hour. That year, he was offered a choice between joining Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club and joining a new musical group. Choosing the latter, Carter became the youngest member of the Backstreet Boys on April 20, 1993, alongside AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, and Kevin Richardson. The group subsequently achieved major success, releasing albums including DNA in 2019 and A Very Backstreet Christmas in 2022, and launching a Las Vegas residency titled Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life.

Carter launched his solo career in 2002 with his debut album, Now Or Never, which reached No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold in the United States and Canada. Supported by singles such as "Help Me" and "I Got You," he launched a solo tour in early 2003. He released his second solo album, I'm Taking Off, in 2011, and collaborated with Jordan Knight on the 2014 album Nick & Knight. In 2015, Carter released his third solo album, All American, featuring collaborations with artists including Avril Lavigne and Natasha Bedingfield.

In 2023, Carter launched The Who I Am World Tour, performing solo material, Backstreet Boys songs, and covers across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. That same year, his participation in the rendition of "Happy Xmas (Cancer's Over)" for the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation earned him a 2024 Pacific Southwest Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Composition & Arrangement. Following the death of his brother Aaron, Carter also released tribute singles such as "Hurts To Love You" and "Superman," supporting the On Our Sleeves foundation for children's mental health.

In addition to music, Carter has pursued acting and television production. His credits include roles on television shows like American Dreams, 8 Simple Rules, and 90210, as well as roles in films such as The Hollow, Kill Speed, and This Is the End. He also co-wrote the theme song for House of Carters and raised funds via crowdfunding to write and produce the film project Evil Blessings.
