Seo Joo-hyun

Seo Ju-hyun, known professionally as Seohyun, is a South Korean singer, actress, and songwriter. She was born on June 28, 1991, in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon District, Seoul, South Korea, as an only child. In her early childhood, her mother, a chairwoman at a piano school, taught her to play the piano, violin, and traditional Korean drums. Seohyun also learned horseback riding and skating. As a fifth grader, she was discovered by a talent scout on a subway train, auditioned for SM Entertainment by singing children's songs, and was accepted as a trainee. She graduated from Jeonju Arts High School in February 2010 and later earned a degree in theatre acting from Dongguk University in August 2014, receiving an achievement award.

Seohyun made her official debut in August 2007 as the youngest member of the girl group Girls' Generation. The group gained wide popularity following their hit single "Gee" in 2009. Outside group releases, Seohyun sang original soundtracks and recorded the 2009 duet "JjaLaJaJJa" with Joo Hyun-mi. From 2010 to 2011, she appeared on the variety show We Got Married 2 and voiced Edith in the Korean-dubbed animated film Despicable Me and its 2013 sequel. In April 2012, she joined the Girls' Generation subgroup TTS, releasing the EPs Twinkle, Holler, and Dear Santa. Seohyun also contributed as a lyricist for several group and subgroup tracks.

Seohyun began her acting career in 2013 with a supporting role in the television drama Passionate Love. Expanding into musical theatre, she made her stage debut in 2014 playing the lead role of Yeon-woo in Moon Embracing the Sun. She subsequently starred as Scarlett O'Hara in the Korean production of Gone with the Wind in 2015 and played Sophie in Mamma Mia in 2016. That same year, she appeared in the Chinese romantic film So I Married An Anti-fan and the drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, which earned her a Special Acting Award at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards.

In January 2017, Seohyun released her debut solo extended play, Don't Say No, taking control of its production process. The EP topped the Gaon Album Chart and was supported by a solo concert residency. Following roles in the web-drama Ruby Ruby Love and the series Bad Thief, Good Thief—for which she won Best New Actress at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards—she departed SM Entertainment in October 2017 while remaining a member of Girls' Generation. She subsequently starred in the 2018 melodrama The Time and held her first fanmeeting tour, Memories.

After signing with Namoo Actors in March 2019, Seohyun starred in Hello Dracula, Private Lives, and the 2022 Netflix film Love and Leashes, which earned her a nomination at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards. That same year, her role in Jinxed at First won her Best New Actress at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards. She went on to star in Song of the Bandits in 2023, the 2025 action-horror film Holy Night: Demon Hunters, and the romantic-comedy series The First Night with the Duke.

Seohyun ended her contract with Namoo Actors in April 2025, later joining Lead Entertainment in May and Dream ENT in December 2025. Alongside her artistic projects, she has engaged in philanthropy, including donations to Dongguk University and ODA Korea, and served as an ambassador or muse for brands such as The Face Shop, Pantene, Clinique, TirrLirr, ACWELL, and Metrocity.
