Piolo Pascual

Piolo Jose Nonato Pascual is a Filipino actor, model, singer, television host, comedian, and film producer. Born in Manila, he gained widespread recognition through his television and film work in the Philippines. Over his career, he has established himself as a prominent entertainer, taking on lead roles in popular television dramas, critically acclaimed feature films, and commercial box-office hits, while also pursuing music recording, film production, and business ventures.

Pascual was born on January 12, 1977, in Malate, Manila, as the youngest of six children. His father worked as an actor and casting director for international film productions filmed in the country. During his elementary and high school years at St. Francis School, Pascual participated in the school's theater group. He later attended the University of Santo Tomas, where he initially studied general education before switching to physical therapy, while also performing with the university's theater group.

Pascual made his initial on-screen appearance in 1993 with a minor role in a feature film, followed by a television debut in 1994 on the youth variety program That's Entertainment. At age 18, he put his acting ambitions on hold to relocate to Los Angeles, California, joining his mother and sister. While living in the United States, he took on various jobs, including working as an emergency room representative and as a security guard for the Academy Awards. He returned to Manila at age 21 to resume his acting career.

Upon returning to the Philippines, Pascual appeared in series such as Mara Clara and Gimik before achieving major fame starring alongside Judy Ann Santos in the 1997 television series Esperanza. The two formed a highly successful screen pairing, going on to star in multiple television shows and financially successful films, including Bakit 'Di Totoohanin, Till There Was You, and Don't Give Up on Us. His film credits also include Milan, which became his highest-grossing movie.

In 2002, Pascual portrayed Jules in the historical drama Dekada '70, a performance that earned him several Best Supporting Actor honors, including awards from FAMAS, Gawad Urian, and the PMPC Star Awards. His career expanded into fantasy and crime genres with television series like Lobo and the 2013 neo-noir film On the Job, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. His later screen projects include the series Since I Found You and a 2022 adaptation of Flower of Evil.

Beyond acting, Pascual joined the all-male musical group The Hunks and launched a successful solo music career, releasing multiple platinum-certified albums. In film production, he co-founded the independent studio Spring Films, which produced projects such as the Kimmy Dora series and Kita Kita. His commercial ventures outside entertainment include opening a food franchise in 2018 and co-owning Isla Amara, a boutique resort in El Nido, Palawan, established in 2022.

Pascual has a son, Iñigo Dominic Lázaro Pascual, born in 1997, and is the uncle of actor Benjamin Alves. In 2013, he participated in a campaign with PETA advocating for the relocation of an elephant housed at the Manila Zoo.
