Angel Locsin

Angelica Locsin Colmenares, born April 23, 1985, in Santa Maria, Bulacan, is a Filipino former actress, advocate, and humanitarian. Raised alongside two younger siblings by her father, a former Asian Games medal-winning swimmer, she attended the University of Santo Tomas High School and was active on its varsity swimming team. A talent scout discovered her at a shopping center, leading to commercial auditions, acting workshops with Star Magic, and her entry into screen acting.

Locsin made her feature film debut in 2000 in the biographical drama Ping Lacson: Super Cop, followed by a regular television role on the youth show Click from 2002 to 2004. She subsequently appeared in various television shows and film projects, including early entries in the Mano Po franchise. Her major breakthrough came as the avian-human hybrid protagonist in the fantasy series Mulawin in 2004. She further established her stardom by portraying the title superhero in Darna in 2005, undergoing martial arts training for a role that achieved record-setting television viewership ratings.

Over the next few years, Locsin expanded her portfolio with projects including the fantasy series Majika in 2006, the romantic drama The Promise in 2007, and the action-adventure series Asian Treasures. In 2008, she took on the lead role of a werewolf in the supernatural drama Lobo, earning an International Emmy Award nomination for Best Actress. She continued starring in high-profile television and film projects, including the romantic drama Love Me Again in 2009, the comedy series Only You, and the supernatural sequel Imortal in 2010.

Locsin achieved further critical and commercial success in the early 2010s. She starred in the romantic drama In the Name of Love in 2011, winning the Star Award for Best Actress and a Box Office Entertainment Award. In 2012, she headlined the romantic comedy Unofficially Yours, which became her highest-grossing film release. Later that year, her portrayal of a devoted mother in the family drama One More Try earned her Best Actress accolades at the FAMAS, Luna, Star, and Box Office Entertainment Awards.

Her later career encompassed diverse genres, including the box-office success Four Sisters and a Wedding in 2013, the television series The Legal Wife in 2014, and the comedy-drama Everything About Her in 2016, which earned her Best Supporting Actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival. She served as a judge on two seasons of Pilipinas Got Talent, starred in the film The Third Party, and reprised her supernatural franchise role in La Luna Sangre in 2017. Locsin then starred in the spy-action thriller The General's Daughter in 2019, receiving a Star Award for her performance. She publicly announced her retirement in April 2026, having completed her last creative work in 2020.

In addition to her artistic accomplishments, Locsin is widely acknowledged for her humanitarian work. She has actively supported causes such as disaster relief, education, and women's rights, and conducted field missions for displaced individuals in Mindanao during 2017. Her community efforts led to her inclusion on lists such as Forbes' Asia's Heroes of Philanthropy and Tatler's Asia's Leaders of Tomorrow.
