Kim Chiu

Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu is a Filipino actress, singer, television presenter, and businesswoman. Known for her work across various entertainment genres, she achieved national prominence after winning the initial teen season of the reality series Pinoy Big Brother in 2006. Over her career, her film appearances have accumulated nearly 1.5 billion pesos at the box office, establishing her among the highest-grossing stars in Philippine cinema. Forbes Asia listed her as one of the most influential regional personalities in 2020.

Born on April 19, 1990, Chiu is of Chinese-Filipino parentage. Her father was a businessman from Mindoro, and her mother was from Dinagat Islands. Following her parents' separation in 1998, Chiu and her four siblings were raised by their paternal grandmother, frequently relocating across several cities in the Visayas and Mindoro before returning to Cebu City. She is fluent in Cebuano, Tagalog, and English, with basic familiarity in Waray, Hokkien, and Mandarin. In 2015, Chiu enrolled in business courses at the University of the Philippines Open University.

After winning Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, Chiu joined Star Magic and began appearing in television programs and films. Her professional partnership with Gerald Anderson led to significant recognition, beginning with the television series Sana Maulit Muli in 2007. She subsequently launched her debut studio album, Gwa Ai Di, which attained Gold certification. Chiu achieved further critical acclaim for her leading role in the 2009 drama series Tayong Dalawa, followed by her first antagonist role in the film I Love You, Goodbye and a starring part in the top-rated 2010 series Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo.

Chiu continued to build her career through diverse cinematic and television roles. She starred in the 2012 horror movie The Healing and the television drama Ina, Kapatid, Anak. In 2014, she starred in the romantic comedy film Bride for Rent, which grossed over 325 million pesos and became one of the highest-grossing Philippine films. That same year, she led the period television drama Ikaw Lamang. Her later film credits include Etiquette for Mistresses, The Ghost Bride, Da One That Ghost Away, and One Great Love.

In television, Chiu starred in series such as The Story of Us, Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin, Love Thy Woman, Fit Check, Linlang, and the 2024 Philippine adaptation of What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. Alongside her acting roles, Chiu is a regular performer on the musical variety show ASAP and serves as a main host on the daily noontime program It's Showtime.

Throughout her career, Chiu has earned numerous honors, including a Seoul International Drama Award, a FAMAS Award, multiple Star Awards for Television, and Box Office Entertainment Awards. All of her studio albums received Gold certification or higher. Outside of acting, Chiu has participated in public health campaigns such as asthma awareness initiatives and engaged in disaster relief efforts.
