Minji

Minji is a South Korean singer and a member of NewJeans, one of the most successful K-pop girl groups to emerge in the 2020s. Born Kim Min-ji on 7 May 2004, she trained under the label Source Music and was featured in promotional material for global auditions in 2019 before moving to ADOR, where the group was formed.

She debuted as one of NewJeans’ five members on 22 July 2022 with the surprise single “Attention.” The group’s arrival made an immediate impact: their early singles “Attention,” “Hype Boy” and “Ditto” established them as one of the defining new acts of their generation, praised for a clean, retro-tinged pop sound and a distinctive visual style.

As part of NewJeans, Minji has featured on a run of record-setting releases. “Hype Boy” became one of the longest-charting songs by a K-pop female act on the Billboard Global 200, “Ditto” spent a landmark stretch atop South Korea’s Circle Digital Chart and earned Song of the Year honours, and later singles such as “OMG” and “Super Shy” extended the group’s international reach across multiple charts.

Before her debut, Minji appeared alongside fellow member Hanni in BTS’s 2021 “Permission to Dance” music video, a brief early credit that drew renewed attention after NewJeans’ rise. Within the group she is widely regarded as one of its central and most recognisable members.

Beyond music, Minji has become a prominent figure in fashion, serving as a brand ambassador for Chanel in Korea and representing the house at its events. Her combination of chart success and high-fashion visibility has made her one of the most closely followed young stars in contemporary K-pop, and a key part of NewJeans’ crossover appeal beyond music into style and advertising.

NewJeans’ rapid success brought the group numerous new-artist and song awards from major South Korean ceremonies within their first years, and their music videos and performances have drawn billions of views online. As one of the members most associated with the group’s fashion partnerships, Minji has featured prominently in its brand campaigns and magazine coverage, reinforcing NewJeans’ reputation as much for style as for music.
