She is particularly known for her roles in notable film productions such as The Left Ear and Soul Mate, as well as television dramas including Love Me If You Dare, Age of Legends, and You Are My Hero.

A native of Bengbu, Anhui, Ma was raised in a family connected to the entertainment industry; her mother is Jiang Wenjuan and her aunt is the actress Jiang Wenli. For her higher education, Ma attended the Communication University of China, where she pursued studies within the Department of Broadcasting.

Ma entered the acting profession at a young age, making her debut at seven years old in the project The Winter of Three Persons. In 2001, she appeared in the production The Grand Mansion Gate. In both early projects, she acted alongside her aunt, Jiang Wenli. She later gained public recognition as the cover model for Rao Xueman's book Joy & Sorrow. Following this, she took on a main role in the series Lover, directed by Shen Yan and adapted from the book Daddy, I have your baby. In 2012, her acting in the feature Time Flies Soundlessly earned her the Best Newcomer accolade at the Golden Phoenix Awards.

Her major breakthrough occurred in 2015 when she was cast as the rebellious character Li Bala in Alec Su's coming-of-age movie The Left Ear. Her critically praised portrayal led to a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Horse Awards. That same year, she further expanded her popularity by starring in the crime drama series Love Me If You Dare opposite Wallace Huo.

In 2016, Ma performed in the adventure feature Time Raiders, adapted from the popular tomb-raiding book series Daomu Biji. She subsequently starred as a rebellious girl in the romantic drama Soul Mate, a role that earned her the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress alongside co-star Zhou Dongyu. The following year, she appeared in the third entry of Tsui Hark's Detective Dee franchise, as well as the campus romance movie Nuts. Her professional achievements were recognized in 2017 when Forbes China included her in their 30 Under 30 Asia list.

Ma's career continued with prominent roles across television and film. In 2018, she starred alongside William Chan in the crime action series Age of Legends and featured in the variety show Who's the Keyman. The following year, she starred in Lou Ye's crime feature The Shadow Play, Rao Xueman's romance film Somewhere Winter, Ann Hui's period romance Love After Love, and the comedy drama series Mr. Fighting with Deng Lun.

In 2021, Ma portrayed a physician in the medical-military romantic series You Are My Hero opposite Bai Jingting. The show reached the top ranking spot and accumulated more than 1.35 billion views on Tencent. That same year, she also starred in the youth drama feature Wild Grass.
