Raised in Redlands, California, she is the daughter of Laurie Kauffman and noted West Coast Swing dancer Buddy Schwimmer. She is the younger sister of Benji Schwimmer, who won the second season of So You Think You Can Dance, and the cousin of dancer Heidi Groskreutz. Schwimmer competes professionally in the West Coast Swing and International Latin dance styles.

Schwimmer began training and competing at a young age. At age seven, she danced with partner Brian Cordoba at the 1995 U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships. In 1998, at age ten, she and partner Blace Thompson took first place in the Young America Division at the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships. She continued to secure top rankings at the event, earning first-place Young America titles with Jamie Bayard in 2000, and Young Adult titles with Bayard in 2002 and with Jared Murillo in 2004. In 2006, Schwimmer and Murillo won the U.S. National Youth Latin Championship.

In 2007, Schwimmer gained national prominence as a contestant on the third season of So You Think You Can Dance, ultimately placing fourth. Throughout her competitive run on the show, she was never in danger of elimination. Following the season, she participated in the show's 2007 dance tour starting in Albany, New York. That same year, she placed first in the Classic Division at the World Swing Dance Championships alongside her brother. She later assisted Benji in choreographing a West Coast Swing routine during the show's fourth season.

In 2008, Schwimmer debuted as a professional dancer on season seven of Dancing with the Stars, placing third with partner Lance Bass. She returned for seasons eight, nine, eleven, twelve, and thirteen, partnering with Steve-O, Mark Dacascos, Kyle Massey, Mike Catherwood, and Chaz Bono. With Kyle Massey in season eleven, she finished as the runner-up in second place.

Beyond her competition work, Schwimmer has made television appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and performed alongside Adam Sandler at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. She appeared in Christina Aguilera's "Candyman" music video, made a cameo in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and appeared in the music video for "Rainbow" by Elisa featuring Vinnie Ferra. Outside of media appearances, she teaches master classes as part of the iHollywood Dance faculty in the United States and Norway, and has launched her own line of tube socks as well as a dancewear line designed with Sugar and Bruno Dancewear.

Schwimmer has also expanded into music. In 2010, she was featured as a singer on the single "Red Cup (I Fly Solo)" by Cash Cash. She released her debut solo single, "Love Soundz," produced by The Monsters and The Strangerz, in June 2011. In 2012, she was featured on the It Boys! single "Burning Up".
