Billie Piper

Billie Piper is an English actress and former pop singer. She initially rose to prominence as a teenage musical artist before establishing a successful career on screen and stage. She is widely recognized for her television roles, including Rose Tyler in the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who and Belle de Jour in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, as well as for her critically acclaimed theatrical performances.

Born Leian Paul Piper on 22 September 1982 in Swindon, Wiltshire, she was raised alongside three siblings. Her parents legally changed her first name to Billie in 1983. She began taking dance lessons at five years old and soon appeared in American soft-drink commercials and as a film extra in Evita. After attending Bradon Forest School, she moved to London around the age of twelve to study at the Sylvia Young Theatre School after receiving a scholarship.

Piper launched her music career after appearing on children's television and commercial campaigns. Signing a record contract at fifteen under the mononym Billie, she became the youngest female artist to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart with her 1998 debut single, Because We Want To. She followed this achievement with another top single, Girlfriend, and her platinum-certified debut album, Honey to the B. Her second studio album, Walk of Life, was released under her full name in 2000 and featured her third number-one track, Day & Night. She officially retired from music in 2003 to focus on acting.

In 2005, Piper achieved widespread popularity starring as Rose Tyler in the revived series of Doctor Who, serving as a regular cast member for two series and returning for later specials and audio dramas. Her television portfolio expanded with starring roles in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, the horror series Penny Dreadful as Brona Croft, the drama Collateral, and the comedy-horror series Wednesday. She also co-created and starred in the series I Hate Suzie. On film, she wrote, directed, and starred in Rare Beasts and appeared in Eternal Beauty.

Throughout her career, Piper has received extensive recognition for her work across multiple mediums. Her lead performance in the stage production of Yerma earned her both an Evening Standard Theatre Award and a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress. Her screen achievements include winning Most Popular Actress at the National Television Awards for Doctor Who, as well as earning British Academy Television Award nominations for her roles in Collateral and I Hate Suzie.
