Hayley Atwell

Hayley Atwell is a British and American actress who has worked extensively in film, television, and theatre. Born in London, England, she trained classically at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 2005. She began her career appearing in stage productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, as well as several British television films and series, including The Line of Beauty and Mansfield Park.

Atwell gained wider recognition for her performances in period dramas, including the feature films Cassandra's Dream (2007), Brideshead Revisited (2008), and The Duchess (2008), receiving a British Independent Film Award nomination for the latter. In 2010, she earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for her role in the historical miniseries The Pillars of the Earth. She achieved global prominence portraying Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and later reprising the character across multiple films and the television series Agent Carter.

Throughout her career, Atwell has balanced high-profile screen projects with regular returns to the stage. She earned Laurence Olivier Award nominations for her performances in theatrical productions such as A View from the Bridge, The Pride, and Rosmersholm. Her later film credits include Cinderella (2015), Christopher Robin (2018), and starring as Grace in the action films Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023) and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025).
