Sean Harris

Sean Harris is an English actor recognized for his extensive work across television, film, and theatre. Born on June 1, 1966, he has gained recognition for portraying complex characters, including real-life musician Ian Curtis in the biographical film 24 Hour Party People (2002), the assassin Micheletto Corella in the historical drama series The Borgias (2011–2013), and antagonist Solomon Lane in the action features Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018).

Raised in Lowestoft, Suffolk, after being born in Bethnal Green, Harris completed his secondary education at Denes High School. At twenty-three years of age, he relocated to London to undertake formal acting training at Drama Centre London, where he studied from 1989 until 1992.

Harris began his acting career in theatre as a member of the Glasgow Citizens Theatre, performing in stage productions such as Romeo and Juliet and Don Juan. His early stage credits also include Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Haymarket Theatre and Angels Rave On at the Nottingham Playhouse. On screen, he appeared in the 1999 television drama Jesus and the acclaimed 2004 short film True Love (Once Removed). He subsequently took on roles in feature films such as Brothers of the Head (2005), Saxon (2007), Harry Brown (2009), and the short film Native Son (2010).

His television credits expanded through performances in miniseries and drama projects such as See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006), Cape Wrath, Ashes to Ashes, the Red Riding trilogy, Svengali, and Five Daughters (2010). Between 2011 and 2013, he featured in the drama series The Borgias. In 2013, Harris played Stephen Morton in Channel 4's Southcliffe, a role that earned him a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor in 2014. He also appeared in Ridley Scott's sci-fi film Prometheus (2012) and the television adaptation of Jamaica Inn.

Throughout the mid-to-late 2010s, Harris maintained a steady film career with prominent parts in Deliver Us from Evil (2014), The Goob (2014), '71 (2014), Serena (2014), Macbeth (2015), and Trespass Against Us (2016). His performances in '71, Macbeth, and Trespass Against Us secured him three consecutive British Independent Film Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor. He later played the leading role in the thriller Possum (2018) and featured in historical dramas including The King (2019), Spencer (2021), and The Green Knight (2021).

In 2022, Harris starred in the crime film The Stranger, delivering a performance that won him the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 2024, he took on the role of Jacob Pearce in the action thriller series Paris Has Fallen. Alongside his screen and stage roles, Harris has made cameo appearances in music videos for musical acts including Mark Ronson, the Black Sharks, and Barbarossa.
