About Selina Jen
Selina Jen Chia-hsüan is a Taiwanese singer, television host, and actress, best known as a member of the Taiwanese girl group S.H.E. Born to a family that includes her younger sister, actress and singer Lorene Ren, Jen pursued her higher education at the National Taiwan Normal University. She graduated on 11 June 2004, earning a Bachelor of Education degree with a major in Civic Education and Leadership.
Jen entered the entertainment industry after competing in the Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest hosted by HIM International Music on 8 August 2000. She joined the competition in place of her sister, who was too young to participate. Over multiple rounds, Jen performed songs such as Coco Lee's "Before I Fall in Love", "The Closest Stranger", and Christina Aguilera's "Reflection". Jen emerged as the winner of the contest among approximately 1,000 entrants. Following auditions, she was signed to HIM International Music alongside two other contestants to form S.H.E. Her stage name, Selina, was chosen by her record label following a personality test to represent gentleness. Early in her career, she published a bead-design book titled Selina Loves Beading in September 2006, and featured on collaborative tracks with Tank and Leehom Wang.
On 22 October 2010, Jen was severely injured during an explosive accident on the set of the television series I Have a Date with Spring in Shanghai. She suffered third-degree burns covering more than 54% of her body, primarily affecting her back, legs, and hands, requiring skin grafting treatment. She was discharged from the hospital on 19 January 2011, subsequently holding a press conference to address her condition and state her intention to return to work.
During her rehabilitation, Jen released her debut solo extended play, Dream a New Dream, on 16 December 2011. The EP included the lead single "Everyone Who Loves Me" and the track "Dream", for which she wrote the lyrics detailing her physical recovery. She released her first full-length solo album, 3.1415, on 19 January 2015, and held her debut solo concert in Taipei the following month. Beginning in 2018, Jen experienced persistent vocal issues. Medical examinations showed no structural damage to her vocal cords, leading her to temporarily shift her focus toward television hosting. She returned to music in December 2019 under her own studio, The Beauty of Ren Limited. She subsequently released the single "All year round" in October 2020, the EP My Own Beauty in December 2021, and her second solo studio album of the same name in April 2022.
In addition to music, Jen starred as a mother in the horror movie The Funeral, released on 1 April 2022, marking her return to film after nearly twelve years. In January 2021, she established an F&B brand named Ren Sing Eat Shot, which specialized in packed porridge before ending operations in January 2024. In her personal life, Jen married lawyer Richard Chang in October 2011; the couple divorced in April 2016. In March 2022, she confirmed a relationship with her partner, Xu, and gave birth to a son in September 2023.
