Tien achieved further widespread prominence with her hit single "A Little Happiness," the theme song for the 2015 Taiwanese film Our Times, which gained popularity across Mandarin-speaking Asia.
Tien was born in Xinfeng, Hsinchu, Taiwan, and is of Hakka descent. Her father was a civil servant, her mother a housewife, and her older brother previously owned a restaurant. She graduated from Hukou High School. In 1999, at age sixteen, she made her early television appearances on the CTV variety show Guess, where she played the flute, and on TV Citizen, where she showcased her singing talent.
Following her television appearances, Tien auditioned for HIM International Music (then Grand Music International). In August 2000, she competed in the label's Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest. Although she encountered vocal challenges during the competition, the label appreciated her personality and vocal power, signing her as a member of S.H.E alongside Selina and Ella.
After years of group success, Tien debuted as a solo artist in September 2010 with To Hebe. The album garnered critical acclaim and won awards at the 22nd Golden Melody Awards. She released her second album, My Love, in September 2011, which received seven Golden Melody Award nominations. With music videos for songs like "Still in Happiness" and "Leave Me Alone," Tien became the first Chinese-language singer to accumulate multiple videos exceeding 10 million views on YouTube.
In November 2013, Tien released her third album, Insignificance, which became the highest-selling album by a female singer in Taiwan that year. She launched her first solo world tour, IF, in December 2014. Her 2015 hit "A Little Happiness" later became the first Chinese-language music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube. She followed with her fourth album, Day by Day, in 2016, embarked on the IF Plus tour, and served as a tutor on the music program Sound of My Dream.
In September 2018, Tien left HIM International Music after 17 years and founded her own management company, A TUNE Music. She signed with Pourquoi Pas Music in 2019 and released her fifth album, Time Will Tell, in September 2020. The album won her Best Female Mandarin Singer at the 32nd Golden Melody Awards. Between 2020 and 2023, she conducted her One, After Another tour and released singles including "It is The Hour" and "Glimpses of a Journey."
