About Salman Khan

Salman Khan is an Indian actor, film producer, and television personality who works primarily in Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has appeared in over 80 films and gained recognition as one of Indian cinema's most popular and commercially successful figures. His professional achievements include two National Film Awards as a producer and two Filmfare Awards as an actor, alongside listings among the world's highest-paid celebrities by Forbes in 2015 and 2018. He has also starred in the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year across ten individual years.

Born on 27 December 1965 to screenwriter Salim Khan and Sushila Charak (later named Salma), Khan was raised in a multi-faith household incorporating both his father's Muslim heritage and his mother's Hindu background. He is the eldest of five children, with brothers Arbaaz and Sohail, sister Alvira, and adopted sister Arpita. His ancestral background includes Pashtun lineage on his father's side as well as Dogra Rajput and Maratha heritage through his mother. He speaks Hindi, English, and Marathi. Khan completed his schooling at Scindia School in Gwalior and St. Stanislaus High School in Mumbai before attending St. Xavier's College, where he ultimately dropped out.

Khan made his acting debut in 1988 with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi. His breakthrough came the following year as the lead in the blockbuster romantic drama Maine Pyar Kiya, which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In 1990, he wrote and starred in the successful action drama Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, followed by hit projects in 1991 such as Sanam Bewafa, Saajan, Kurbaan, and Patthar Ke Phool.

Despite a commercial failure with Suryavanshi in 1992, Khan established his career throughout the 1990s with major box-office successes. These included the record-breaking romance Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, the action film Karan Arjun, and the family comedy Biwi No.1. He also earned acclaim for his work in films like Andaz Apna Apna, Khamoshi: The Musical, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. During a period of mixed results in the 2000s, he achieved notable success with films including Tere Naam, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, No Entry, Partner, and Wanted.

Beginning in 2010 with Dabangg, Khan entered a period of sustained commercial success. Between 2010 and 2017, every film in which he played the lead grossed over 100 crore domestically, including hits such as Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan, and Tiger Zinda Hai. Following a period of critically and commercially underperforming releases, he achieved further success with Bharat in 2019 and Tiger 3 in 2023.

In addition to acting, Khan hosted the game show 10 Ka Dum and has presented the reality show Bigg Boss since 2010. He actively engages in philanthropic work through his charity, the Being Human Foundation.
