Aamir Khan

Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan, born on March 14, 1965, is a prominent Indian film actor, director, producer, and television host working in Hindi cinema. Often referred to in the media as "Mr. Perfectionist" throughout his career of over thirty years, he has earned widespread recognition in Indian entertainment. His achievements include nine Filmfare Awards, four National Film Awards, and an AACTA Award. The Indian government honored him with the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010, while the Chinese government granted him an honorary title in 2017.

Khan was born in Bombay to film producer Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain. He belongs to a family deeply connected to cinema and culture; his late paternal uncle Nasir Hussain was a producer-director, while other relatives include director Mansoor Khan and former actor Imran Khan. As a child, Khan experienced his family's financial struggles resulting from unsuccessful film projects. Outside academics, he competed in state-level tennis championships. His interest in filmmaking began at sixteen when he acted in and helped produce a silent film titled Paranoia, followed by work with the Avantar theatre group and assisting his uncle on feature productions.

Before his adult acting career, Khan appeared as a child actor in films such as Yaadon Ki Baaraat and Madhosh. He made his feature debut in the low-budget movie Holi in 1984. His major career breakthrough occurred with the 1988 romantic drama Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which made him a leading star and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Shortly after, his performance in the crime thriller Raakh earned him a Special Mention recognition at the National Film Awards.

Throughout the 1990s, Khan established himself among Hindi cinema's leading actors with a string of popular releases. Key commercial hits included Dil, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and Rangeela. In 1996, he starred in Raja Hindustani, which earned him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He followed this success with films like Ghulam, the commercially successful Sarfarosh, and Deepa Mehta's critically acclaimed international art-house drama Earth.

In 1999, he launched Aamir Khan Productions. Its inaugural release, Lagaan (2001), was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and secured multiple honors, including a National Film Award and Filmfare awards. Following the success of Dil Chahta Hai, Khan took a four-year break before returning with Rang De Basanti and Fanaa in 2006. He made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par in 2007, winning the Filmfare Awards for Best Director and Best Film alongside a National Film Award.

Khan subsequently starred in several record-breaking Indian blockbusters, including Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, PK, and Dangal, each becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of its time and expanding Indian cinema's popularity in East Asian markets such as China. Beyond acting, he hosted the television talk show Satyamev Jayate, appeared on the Time 100 list in 2013, and has been featured in lists of influential global figures.
