Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor Khan is an Indian actress who has played prominent roles in Hindi cinema since 2000. Recognized as one of the highest-paid actresses in the industry, she has received numerous honors, including six Filmfare Awards. Born on September 21, 1980, in Mumbai, she belongs to the prominent Kapoor entertainment family. She is the daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita, the younger sister of actress Karisma Kapoor, and the paternal granddaughter of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor.

Kapoor was inspired to act from an early age due to her family background and early exposure to the film industry. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and Welham Girls' School in Dehradun before pursuing commerce at Mithibai College. She later completed a summer microcomputers course at Harvard Summer School, studied law for a year at Government Law College in Mumbai, and eventually trained at an acting institute under Kishore Namit Kapoor to prepare for her performing career.

Making her feature screen debut in the 2000 war drama Refugee, Kapoor earned the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She achieved broader commercial recognition the following year with the hit melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which earned her a Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Following this early success, she experienced a period of critical and box-office setbacks in 2002 and 2003, during which several of her project releases performed poorly and reviewers expressed concern over her being typecast.

Kapoor expanded her artistic range in 2004 by playing a sex worker in the independent drama Chameli, earning a special jury recognition at the Filmfare Awards. She secured further critical acclaim for her roles as a riot victim in Dev and a character based on Desdemona in the 2006 crime film Omkara. In 2007, her performance as a lively Sikh woman in the romantic comedy Jab We Met won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Over the subsequent years, Kapoor starred in a string of major commercial hits, including 3 Idiots, Golmaal 3, Bodyguard, Singham Returns, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Good Newwz. She also drew praise for her dramatic roles in films such as Kurbaan, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within, Heroine, Udta Punjab, and Laal Singh Chaddha, as well as female-led comedies including Veere Di Wedding and Crew.

Off-screen, Kapoor is married to actor Saif Ali Khan, with whom she has two sons. Alongside her film work, she has performed in stage shows, hosted a radio program, co-authored two memoirs and two nutrition guides, and launched her own lines of clothing and cosmetics. Since 2014, she has also partnered with UNICEF to promote girls' education and improve educational standards across India.
