Shruti Haasan

Shruti Haasan, born on 28 January 1986, is an Indian actress and singer who works predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. Recognized as one of the highest-paid actresses in South Indian cinema, she has earned numerous accolades, including two Filmfare Awards South and seven SIIMA Awards. She was featured on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list in 2015 and 2016. In addition to acting, she is an established singer and has her own music band.

Haasan was born in Madras, now Chennai, into a Tamil family. Her father is actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan, and her mother is actress Sarika Thakur. She has a younger sister, Akshara Haasan, who is also an actress, as well as family members in the film industry including her uncle Charuhasan and cousins Suhasini Maniratnam and Anu Hasan. Haasan attended Lady Andal school in Chennai before studying psychology at St. Andrew's College in Mumbai. She later traveled to the United States to study at the Musicians Institute in California before returning to Chennai.

Haasan made her initial screen appearance as a child artist in a cameo role in the bilingual film Hey Ram, directed by her father. She made her adult acting debut in the 2009 Hindi film Luck. In 2011, she made her Telugu debut in Anaganaga O Dheerudu and her Tamil debut in 7 Aum Arivu. Her performances in both films earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. That same year, she also appeared in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji and Oh My Friend.

A major turning point in Haasan's career came with the 2012 Tamil romantic drama 3, which earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil. Later that year, she starred in the Telugu film Gabbar Singh, which became a commercial success and earned her a SIIMA Award for Best Actress – Telugu. In 2013, she appeared in the Telugu films Balupu and Ramayya Vasthavayya, as well as the Hindi films Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day, receiving an IIFA Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for D-Day.

Haasan established herself as a leading South Indian actress through several successful Telugu projects, including Yevadu and Race Gurram in 2014, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu for Race Gurram. In 2015, she appeared in the Hindi releases Gabbar Is Back and Welcome Back, the Telugu film Srimanthudu, and the Tamil films Puli and Vedalam. She followed these with roles in Rocky Handsome, Premam, Si3, Katamarayudu, and Behen Hogi Teri.

Expanding into television and digital projects, Haasan hosted the Tamil talk show Hello Sago in 2018 and made her American television debut in Treadstone. Following a brief hiatus from Indian films, she returned in 2020 starring in the short film Devi, followed by Yaara and Putham Pudhu Kaalai. Her highest-grossing film releases came with the Telugu film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire in 2023 and the Tamil film Coolie in 2025.
