Hansika Motwani

Hansika Motwani is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Tamil and Telugu cinema. She began her career as a child actor in Indian television and Hindi films before transitioning into lead roles in South Indian feature films. She has also acted in Kannada and Malayalam projects.

Motwani was born on 9 August 1991 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to a Sindhi Hindu family. Her father, Pradeep Motwani, is a businessman, and her mother, Mona Motwani, is a dermatologist. She was educated in Mumbai at Podar International School and the International Curriculum School in Santacruz.

She started her acting career as a child performer on television, appearing in series such as Shaka Laka Boom Boom and Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand. During this period, she appeared in the Hindi film Koi... Mil Gaya and featured in advertising campaigns for brands including Bournvita, Onida, and Santro. In 2007, she made her adult debut in Puri Jagannadh's Telugu film Desamuduru, which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. That same year, she starred in the Hindi film Aap Kaa Surroor.

Motwani's regional career expanded in 2008 with her entry into Kannada cinema with Bindaas and her appearance in the Telugu film Kantri. In 2011, she debuted in Tamil cinema with Mappillai, followed by commercially successful projects such as Engeyum Kadhal and Velayudham. Her 2012 Tamil romantic comedy Oru Kal Oru Kannadi became a major hit, while her Telugu performance in Denikaina Ready earned positive reviews and led to her first Best Actress nomination at the 60th Filmfare Awards South. Over the subsequent years, she appeared in numerous Tamil and Telugu projects, including Singam II, Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru, Aranmanai, Romeo Juliet, Power, and Maan Karate.

In 2017, Motwani starred in the Tamil film Bogan, appeared in the Telugu film Luckunnodu, and made her Malayalam cinema debut in Villain. Her subsequent filmography includes Gulaebaghavali, Thuppakki Munai, 100, and Tenali Ramakrishna BA. BL. She later headlined her 50th film project, Maha (2022), and featured in 2024 releases such as 105 Minuttess and Guardian.

Beyond her film work, Motwani engages in philanthropic efforts, supporting the education of underprivileged children and providing monetary assistance for women suffering from breast cancer. She serves as the brand ambassador for Chennai turns Pink, a breast cancer awareness campaign. In 2014, she was listed among the Forbes 250 celebrities.
