Kang Dong-won

Gang Dong-won is a South Korean actor who first entered the entertainment industry as a model before establishing himself in television and film. He attained widespread recognition following his breakthrough performance in the 2004 movie Temptation of Wolves. Over the course of his career, he has starred in numerous prominent feature films across various genres, including Maundy Thursday, Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard, Secret Reunion, Kundo: Age of the Rampant, The Priests, A Violent Prosecutor, Master, and Peninsula.

Born on January 18, 1981, in Busan, Gang grew up in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province. His father worked as an engineer and eventually served as vice president of SPP Heavy Industries. During his time in college, Gang worked part-time jobs to pay for his tuition due to periodic financial difficulties faced by his family. Possessing an IQ of 137, he graduated from Hanyang University at Ansan with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Gang was scouted by a modeling agency on the street in 2000 during his first year of university. He subsequently modeled on runways in Paris for fashion brands such as Gucci, DKNY, and Hugo Boss, as well as for local shows hosted by the Seoul Fashion Artists Association. After appearing in Jo Sung-mo's music video for I Swear, he took acting lessons and transitioned into performance. He made his television acting debut in 2003 with roles in Country Princess and Something About 1%, followed by his feature film debut in the 2004 romantic comedy Too Beautiful to Lie. Later that year, his profile rose significantly across Asia after starring in the film adaptation Temptation of Wolves.

Over the following years, Gang took on varied roles, including performances in the television drama Magic, the drama film Maundy Thursday, and the crime film Voice of a Murderer. He gained recognition for collaborating with director Lee Myung-se on the films Duelist and M. He subsequently starred in the successful blockbusters Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard and the 2010 spy film Secret Reunion. Before beginning mandatory military service, he completed the short film Love For Sale in the omnibus Camellia and the thriller Haunters. Gang enlisted on November 18, 2010, completing basic training at Nonsan before fulfilling his service as a public service worker, and was discharged on November 12, 2012.

Following his return to acting in the 2013 short film The X, Gang appeared in Kundo: Age of the Rampant, My Brilliant Life, and the mystery thriller The Priests. In 2016, he starred in the hit crime film A Violent Prosecutor, the fantasy title Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned, and the financial thriller Master. He later made an appearance in 1987: When the Day Comes, followed by roles in Golden Slumber, Illang: The Wolf Brigade, and the 2020 horror-action sequel Peninsula.

In 2022, Gang starred in Hirokazu Kore-eda's film Broker, which competed at the Cannes Film Festival, and became a house ambassador for Louis Vuitton. After departing his previous agency, he established Studio AA Group in 2023. In 2024, Gang was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, launched the fashion brand NONYMOUSAA, and starred in the Netflix film Uprising. He also was cast in the series Tempest.
